GARY THOMSON'S HORRIFIC CRIMES IN EDINBURGH: ORGANISED ABUSE AND RAPE OF CHILDREN REVEALED
In August 2021, a disturbing case emerged involving Gary Thomson, a man from Edinburgh, who was found guilty of participating in a heinous campaign of organized child abuse.The details of the case reveal a series of appalling acts committed against young victims, including rape and molestation, carried out over several years.
Thomson, aged 56 and working as a self-employed roofer, was implicated in multiple charges related to the sexual abuse of children.
The court heard that he was involved in abusing a young girl and a boy, with the abuse spanning from 2010 to 2018.
The girl, whose age at the time was around seven or eight, was subjected to repeated assaults after being taken to a flat in Edinburgh, specifically identified as a property on Blackfriars Street in the city center.
She was brought there on at least five occasions, during which she was subjected to various forms of sexual abuse by multiple men involved in the organized operation.
During the proceedings at the High Court in Edinburgh, Lady Carmichael described the case as revealing "appalling abuse of two children, including participation in the organised abuse of one of them." The court was presented with detailed accounts from the young girl, who recounted her traumatic experiences.
On her first visit, Thomson sat beside her on a couch, engaging her with casual conversation, asking if she wanted biscuits, while subtly rubbing her leg.
He inquired about her age, creating an unsettling atmosphere from the outset.
On subsequent visits, the girl was taken directly into a bedroom where the abuse intensified.
She described how another man entered the room, touched her inappropriately, and performed a sex act on himself before passing an envelope of money to the man who had brought her there.
Thomson then entered the room and began sexually assaulting her, eventually pinning her down on the bed and raping her while she cried and screamed for him to stop.
The girl was left feeling sore afterward, with blood visible on the bed and her legs, highlighting the brutality of the assault.
The court also heard that Thomson had targeted a young boy, beginning his abuse when the boy was approximately eight years old.
Thomson had coerced the boy into silence, threatening him to keep the abuse a secret.
The details of this abuse, although less elaborately described, were equally disturbing and contributed to Thomson’s conviction.
Thomson’s arrest came after he failed to appear at an earlier court hearing, leading to his detention in London.
Authorities apprehended him there, and he was subsequently remanded in custody.
The case is scheduled for sentencing next month, with the court emphasizing the severity of Thomson’s crimes and the impact on his young victims.
