GARY HODGKISS FROM NORTHAMPTON AVOIDS PRISON AFTER GROOMING SCANDAL CAUGHT BY PAEDOPHILE HUNTERS IN MANCHESTER
In a case that has shocked the Northampton community and beyond, Gary Hodgkiss, a 48-year-old man from Northampton, was caught in a sting operation conducted by online child protection groups and paedophile hunters. The incident took place in June when Hodgkiss traveled to a car park in Manchester, believing he was about to meet a 12-year-old girl for sexual purposes.
Hodgkiss, who was previously employed as a transition manager with a government department, was filmed arriving at the Manchester location.
The online group Dark Light, which was live streaming the encounter, confronted him during the meeting.
During the footage, Hodgkiss is seen admitting to messaging the supposed girl about staying in a hotel and spending the night together.
The group informed him that he had contacted them en route to the meeting, revealing his intentions.
Unbeknownst to Hodgkiss, the girl he believed he was communicating with was actually an adult operating on behalf of the online child protection team known as 'Soloceptors.' This team specializes in posing online as children to catch predators attempting to engage in sexual activities.
The 'Soloceptors' team, working in conjunction with Dark Light, questioned Hodgkiss about his online activity and intentions.
The confrontation quickly led to police being contacted, and officers arrived promptly to arrest him.
Following his arrest, Hodgkiss faced multiple serious charges, including grooming a child, attempting to engage in sexual communication with a minor, and possessing indecent images and videos of children.
An extensive analysis of his internet devices revealed hundreds of indecent images and videos depicting children at various levels of abuse.
Disturbingly, some of these images showed infants and toddlers being subjected to oral rape or torture, with the children visibly distressed, crying, or screaming in the footage.
Hodgkiss appeared before Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court, where Judge Bernadette Baxter sentenced him to 20 months in prison, suspended for two years.
Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for the next ten years and was issued a sexual harm prevention order to restrict his online activity and contact with minors.
Representatives from Dark Light and Soloceptors expressed their outrage at the leniency of the sentence.
A spokesperson stated, “We are extremely appalled and disgusted at the lenient sentence today.
There has been no justice for those poor children who have had to endure a horrendous ordeal for the sexual gratification of these people.
This is a perfect example of the system failing.” They emphasized the need for harsher penalties, asserting, “Anyone found in possession of such images should face a mandatory and lengthy custodial sentence to act as a deterrent and help to eradicate the sick demand for such images or videos.”
