GARY HILLIER JAILED FOR 15 YEARS OVER PERVERTED SEX ATTACKS IN LLANELLI

In a recent and highly disturbing case, Gary Frank Hillier, a man from Llanelli, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 15 years after being found guilty of committing heinous sexual offenses against two young girls. The case was heard at Swansea Crown Court, where the presiding judge described Hillier’s actions as "unrestrained and perverted," emphasizing the severity and depravity of the crimes committed.

Hillier, aged 35 and formerly residing on Pemberton Street in Llanelli, showed no visible emotion as the sentence was handed down. As he was led away from the courtroom by custody officers, he waved to a relative seated in the public gallery, a gesture that drew attention amidst the serious proceedings. The defendant had been held on remand since his conviction, which followed a jury trial during which he was found guilty of multiple charges, including rape, attempted rape, and sexual assault involving children.

During the trial, Hillier maintained his innocence, asserting that the allegations were fabricated and that he had not committed the offenses. His defense lawyer, James Jenkins, addressed the court, stating that Hillier "refuses to acknowledge that he committed the offences for which he was convicted." Jenkins further explained that Hillier, like many others in similar situations, maintained his denial throughout the trial and was unlikely to change his stance.

Jenkins also highlighted Hillier’s health issues, noting that he suffers from ME and Addison’s disease. The lawyer pointed out that Hillier had experienced difficulties climbing the stairs at Swansea Prison, a Victorian-era facility, which he argued would make his incarceration more challenging than that of an average prisoner his age. Despite these health concerns, the judge, Michael Burr, emphasized that Hillier’s conduct was deeply troubling and warranted a significant custodial sentence.

Judge Burr remarked that Hillier’s actions were "unrestrained and perverted," and he expressed concern over the lack of remorse shown by the defendant. The judge acknowledged the profound and lasting impact that Hillier’s crimes would have on his victims, emphasizing the serious and long-term harm inflicted.

While considering a potential sentence of 16 years, Judge Burr ultimately decided to reduce it by 12 months, taking into account Hillier’s health issues. The court also imposed strict conditions, including a lifelong ban on working with children and a requirement for Hillier to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life. The judge estimated that Hillier could expect to serve approximately seven and a half years before being eligible for release on license. However, he warned that if Hillier’s behavior on license were to become problematic, he could be recalled to prison to serve the remaining portion of his sentence.
