AYR OFFENDER GARY GALLAGHER AKA WATSON JAILED FOR LIFE OVER RAPE AND ASSAULTS
At the High Court in Edinburgh on 20 July 2016, Lady Scott imposed a lifelong restriction order on Gary Gallagher, also known as Watson, after he was convicted of multiple serious offenses including rape and physical and sexual assaults against three female partners. The court detailed that Gallagher's conduct spanned from 1995 to 2012, involving numerous assaults—including two severe injuries and dangerous acts such as using a knife at least five times and biting victims.
One victim testified that she was raped multiple times, regardless of pregnancy or presence of children.
Throughout his relationships, Gallagher exhibited controlling, dominating, and violent behavior, which he blamed on his childhood difficulties and reported medical conditions.
He has two previous convictions for severe assault resulting in disfigurement and danger to life.
The court noted his lack of remorse, refusal to engage with support, and his blame-shifting towards victims.
Psychiatric assessments concluded he does not have a mental illness but shows traits of borderline and anti-social personality disorder, presenting a high risk of future violence.
The judge sentenced Gallagher to a punishment part of five years and made a lifelong restriction order with an indeterminate sentence from 14 May 2015.
Gallagher is now subject to the sexual offences notification requirements for an indefinite period.
