BRUTAL RAPE OF TEENAGE GIRL BY GARY FENTON AND BRYAN GEORGE IN REDCAR AND VALE OF GLAMORGAN

In a harrowing case that has shocked the communities of Redcar and the Vale of Glamorgan, two men, Gary Fenton and Bryan George, have been sentenced to nine years in prison each for their involvement in the brutal rape of a teenage girl. The assault took place in 2001, with the victim, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons, subjected to a horrifying ordeal that has left lasting scars.

According to court proceedings, Fenton, aged 38, and George, aged 48, forcibly took the vulnerable girl from a location in Redcar, Teesside, and marched her to Fenton’s bedsit. The court heard that despite her desperate cries and pleas for them to stop, the two men persisted in their assault. The victim was described as being in a fragile state, and her distress was evident throughout the trial.

During the sentencing hearing, Bryan George was seen blowing a kiss towards the public gallery as the proceedings commenced. He then lowered his head into his hands, visibly affected by the gravity of the situation. As he was led away from the dock, George addressed the gallery, saying, “I love you,” before breaking down and protesting, “I never done this. I never done this crime.” A woman in the courtroom attempted to approach the dock but was stopped by officers, highlighting the emotional intensity of the moment.

The jury took approximately four and a half hours to deliberate before returning a verdict of guilty for both men on charges of rape. The court was told that the assault occurred in Fenton’s residence in 2001, where the victim was forcibly taken into a private space and repeatedly raped. Prosecutor Shaun Dodds described how the two men, each taking turns, carried out the assault despite her protests, which included pleas of “no,” “stop,” and “please don’t.”

The court heard that the girl, then a teenager, was so frightened that she believed her life was in danger as she was laid down during the attack. Fenton, who sat beside her during the assault, told her, “it’ll be all right,” and attempted to hush her, treating her like a child. The victim recounted feeling as though the ordeal lasted an eternity, and her testimony revealed the depth of her trauma.

Throughout the attack, Fenton sat close to her, making cruel remarks such as “I can hear you begging,” and insulting her with foul language. The judge emphasized that, despite her protests, the two men had their way with her on multiple occasions, degrading and humiliating her in a sustained and calculated attack. Now an adult, she described her feelings of fear, shame, and sickness, stating, “I was just scared. I wanted to go home. I felt dirty. I felt sick.” She revealed that she ran away after the men left the room, did not disclose the incident for several years, and only recently found the courage to report it to the police.

Initially, Bryan George denied any sexual contact when questioned by authorities, claiming there had been no such encounter. However, the jury saw through his falsehood, and both men were convicted. The court noted that neither had previous sexual offenses, but Fenton had a history of violence against women. In 2010, he was sentenced to five and a half years for wounding with intent after assaulting his then-partner with a glass. Additionally, Fenton was already serving a four-year sentence in Cardiff for a series of serious assaults, including punching, kicking, and stamping on a woman, which resulted in a punctured lung and fractured ribs.

Both Fenton, from the Vale of Glamorgan, and George, from Redcar, received the same prison term of nine years. They were also subjected to restraining orders that prohibit any contact with the victim and will be registered as sex offenders indefinitely. The court’s decision underscores the severity of their crimes and the lasting impact on the young woman who endured this traumatic experience.
