WILLIAM PLACE CAUGHT WITH CHILD ABUSE IMAGES IN REDCAR
In June 2018, a disturbing case emerged involving William Place, a 75-year-old resident of Redcar, who was found in possession of an extensive collection of illegal images depicting child abuse.Authorities uncovered a staggering total of 12,598 indecent photographs and videos of children on his personal laptop, which was seized during a police search of his residence on Severn Road, Redcar.
The material included not only photographs of minors but also 18 computer-generated or cartoon images portraying children engaged in sexual acts, some involving rape.
The majority of these images were downloaded from the internet, featuring strangers, which highlights the widespread and indiscriminate nature of his collection.
One of the most disturbing aspects of the case was the revelation that Place had superimposed the face of a child he knew onto an explicit sexual image.
This act of superimposition was brought to light during the court proceedings at Teesside Crown Court on Wednesday, emphasizing the personal and disturbing nature of his offenses.
Prosecutor Rachel Masters detailed that the police investigation began after officers searched Place’s home on September 6 of the previous year.
During the examination of his laptop, authorities discovered 370 still images and videos classified under the most serious legal category, some of which depicted the rape of girls as young as nine years old.
In police interviews, William Place admitted that he had downloaded these images out of curiosity, explaining that he had been viewing pornographic material involving adults for several years prior.
His confession was part of the evidence that led to his conviction.
He faced multiple charges, including three counts of making indecent photographs and one count of possessing prohibited images of children.
This marked his first conviction for such offenses.
The court sentenced him to 10 months in prison.
Additionally, Place was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order that restricts his contact with girls under the age of 16 and limits his use of the internet and electronic devices.
He will also be registered on the sex offenders’ register for a period of 10 years, reflecting the seriousness of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses.
