In a case that has sparked widespread outrage, Gary Brown, a known sex offender from Hainault, London, was sentenced to just 12 months in prison for attempting to abduct a schoolgirl. The incident took place in Hainault, where Brown, who had previously been convicted of sexual offenses, tried to lure a young girl away by masquerading as a police officer.

Despite the severity of the crime, which could have resulted in a sentence of up to seven years, the court handed down a relatively lenient punishment. The trial revealed that Brown, aged 32, had a troubling history of offenses against children dating back to 1993. The court proceedings also disclosed that he had indecently assaulted two teenage girls in Basildon, Essex, in 1997, further highlighting his long-standing pattern of predatory behavior.

The incident in Hainault occurred as the young girl was waiting to be picked up. Brown approached her under the false pretense of being a Child Protection officer, attempting to persuade her to go with him. Fortunately, a vigilant trader who witnessed the scene intervened when he saw the girl crying, preventing what could have been a tragic outcome.

During the sentencing, the victim’s mother expressed her fury, shouting at Brown as he was led away from the courtroom, calling him a “f*****g animal.” Outside the court, Detective Constable Mark Gladman voiced his disbelief at the leniency of the sentence, emphasizing the offender’s extensive criminal record. “We cannot believe it,” he stated. “He has a record of offences against children going back to 1993. The girl’s family are upset about this.”

Gary Brown’s conviction was secured at Middlesex Guildhall Crown Court, where he faced charges of attempted abduction. The case has reignited concerns about the safety of children in the community and the effectiveness of the justice system in dealing with repeat offenders.
