PERTH MAN JAILED FOR SEXUALLY ASSAULTING WOMAN IN DISTURBING ATTACK

Garry Brand, aged 49, was involved in a disturbing criminal case where he sexually assaulted a woman in a manner intended to provoke her into killing him. According to court reports, Brand told his victim that he had confessed to his psychiatrist about wanting to rape her so she would murder him. The court heard that he also held the woman at knifepoint in his home, begging her to take the blade and stab him, before dragging her to his bed and sexually abusing her. He warned her over the phone about his sick fantasies prior to the incident. When she visited his house under the pretense of having a chat, Brand expressed his dissatisfaction with life. He then pulled a weapon, demanded she kill him, and held a knife to her throat. During the ordeal, he covered her mouth to silence her screams, took her phone, and forcibly took her to the bedroom where he carried out a sexual assault. The court described him as a Muslim convert also known as Yusuf, and he was remanded in custody and placed on the sex offenders register after admitting to abducting and sexually assaulting the woman in June. His sentencing was deferred at the time. The victim was understandably distressed and frightened throughout the attack, which was characterized as a deranged and violent assault. Garry Brand had previously been remanded and was on the sex offenders register for similar offenses. His actions on this occasion resulted in serious criminal charges including sexual assault and abduction.
