Maerdy Sexual Abuser

October 2008 Judge tells sex attacker he will serve a ‘minimum of 10 years’ A sex attacker has been jailed for life after one of his victims told a jury “I thought I wasn’t going to get out of there alive”.  Gareth Anthony Davies, 40, of Oxford Street, Maerdy, had denied the allegations against him, making two women relive their experiences during a trial at Cardiff Crown Court.  Judge David Wynn Morgan told him: “You will serve a minimum of 10 years in custody”.  The jury had taken less than four hours at the end of last week to find him guilty, by a majority of 10 to one, of 17 charges which included rape, indecent assault and being indecent with a child.  As well as being given the life sentence, he was yesterday also ordered to have his name put on the sex offenders’ register and was banned from ever working with children.  Davies’ first victim had made a complaint in the summer of 2007 after keeping her rape a secret for years.  The court was told she faced up to what had happened to her at his hands, after becoming distraught during a game of truth and dare with friends. A second victim later came forward to say that she too had been raped by Davies.  The victim attacked by him when she was a child, bravely faced him across the courtroom to tell a jury how she had tried to stop him but he held her down.  She said: “I remember thinking I’m not going to get out of here alive and I’m never going to see my mum again.  “I felt so scared and threatened. After he had finished raping me he just got up and walked away.”
