DEPRAVED GANG RAPE BY DEPTFORD TEENS: ONYENEK, CLARKE, WALLACE AND BROWN SENTENCED

In a disturbing case that shocked the community of Deptford, four teenagers have been convicted and sentenced for their involvement in the brutal gang rape and false imprisonment of a 14-year-old girl. The incident, which took place in September of the previous year, culminated in a series of violent assaults that left a lasting impact on the young victim.

On October 30 and November 1, at Blackfriars Crown Court, the court handed down sentences to the four offenders, who had all pleaded not guilty but were ultimately convicted by a jury after a detailed trial. The sentences ranged from four to nine years, reflecting the severity of their crimes.

Christopher Onyeneke, aged 19 and unemployed, residing at Lanyard House in Deptford, was sentenced to seven years in prison. He was convicted of one count of false imprisonment and one count of rape. His actions during the incident included participating in the sexual assault and restraining the victim against her will.

Robert Clarke, a 17-year-old student living on Gosterwood Street in Deptford, received a six-year sentence for his role in the crimes. Like Onyeneke, he was found guilty of false imprisonment and rape, and his involvement was confirmed through the jury's verdict.

Daimon Wallace, aged 18 and unemployed, from Amersham Road in Deptford, was sentenced to nine years. His conviction was for one count of false imprisonment and one count of rape, with the court noting his significant participation in the assault.

James Brown, a 19-year-old student residing in Larch Close, Deptford, was sentenced to four years for his part in the false imprisonment. Although his sentence was comparatively lighter, his involvement was nonetheless deemed serious by the court.

All three offenders—Onyeneke, Clarke, and Wallace—were ordered to register as sex offenders for life, a measure that underscores the gravity of their crimes. The court also ordered the jury to acquit a 17-year-old youth from the Deptford area, citing insufficient evidence to convict him.

According to court proceedings, the incident unfolded around 10 pm on September 10 of the previous year. The victim was waiting at a bus stop in Deptford when she received a call from Robert Clarke, whom she had met earlier that day. Clarke arrived to meet her along with James Brown, and they persuaded her to accompany them to Syes Court Park, a location known to be frequented by local youths.

Once there, after an argument with Daimon Wallace, the 18-year-old took the girl behind some bushes where he committed the rape. The assault was followed by a series of violent acts, including further sexual violence inflicted by Onyeneke and Clarke. The victim endured a harrowing ordeal, which culminated in her being threatened by James Brown as she attempted to escape and reach a bus stop.

The court's verdict and sentencing reflect the serious nature of these crimes and serve as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by young victims in the community of Deptford.
