FRASER BRENNAN AND SHOCKING CHILD ABUSE IN NEWCASTLE
A man known for collecting pets and convicted of sexually abusing two young children has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 27 years.Fraser Brennan, aged 35, was found guilty of subjecting the minors to horrific acts of abuse that have left lasting trauma.
The case was heard at Newcastle Crown Court, where it was revealed that Brennan had a prior criminal history involving similar offenses.
When he was just 15 or 16 years old, Brennan was convicted of sexually assaulting two other young individuals.
Despite this, he received only a community order at the time, and he was subsequently cautioned twice for breaching his sex offender registration requirements.
In the recent case, court proceedings disclosed that Brennan kept a variety of animals, including a bearded dragon, a snake, and rabbits.
During the trial, Brennan admitted that these pets were attractive to children, although the judge noted that it was not clear whether he kept them specifically for that purpose.
The court heard that Brennan denied any wrongdoing against the victims, yet he was convicted on multiple counts.
He was found guilty of two counts of assault by penetration on one of the children, as well as attempted rape and two counts of assault by penetration on the other victim.
The abuse was uncovered after a school teacher became suspicious and reported concerns, leading to Brennan’s arrest.
Throughout the proceedings, Brennan continued to deny any involvement or misconduct.
One of the victims provided a heartbreaking victim impact statement, expressing feelings of intense anger and revealing that they have self-harmed as a result of the trauma.
The statement also conveyed a sense of ongoing pain, with the victim stating they will never forget what happened but hope to use their experience to become stronger.
The second victim shared that they have not been able to find happiness since the abuse, suffering from depression and anxiety, and also engaging in self-harm.
Judge Christopher Prince delivered the sentence, sentencing Brennan, of Camperdown, North Tyneside, to 27 years in prison.
Additionally, Brennan will be subject to an extended license period of six years and will be required to register as a sex offender indefinitely.
Fiona Lamb, representing Brennan, stated that there is a different side to her client, emphasizing that his family remains supportive of him despite the convictions.
