FERIDON ALI GATESHEAD SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED TO 17 YEARS FOR ABUSE OF SCHOOLGIRL
In June 2016, a disturbing case unfolded in Gateshead involving Feridon Ali, a man who subjected a young girl to a harrowing campaign of sexual abuse, effectively stealing her childhood and leaving lasting scars. The victim, who was only 11 years old at the time, endured a series of heinous assaults carried out by Ali, whose actions have had profound and enduring effects on her mental health and well-being.
During the trial, the court heard how Ali's abuse left the girl terrified and traumatized.
She recounted her experiences, revealing that Ali had told her not to tell anyone about what was happening, warning her that she would be the one to get into trouble if she did.
Her testimony painted a picture of a young girl living in constant fear, with her innocence shattered by Ali’s predatory behavior.
Judge Penny Moreland, presiding over the case at Newcastle Crown Court, delivered a stern sentence after Ali was found guilty of nine sexual offences.
The judge emphasized the devastating impact of Ali’s actions on the victim, stating, “She was frightened of you and you told her not to tell anyone and said she would be the one who would be in trouble.
She told the jury she was terrified of you.
What you did has had, and will continue to have, a devastating effect on her.” Judge Moreland further explained that the victim has suffered severe psychological harm, including nightmares and feelings of intense loneliness.
She highlighted that Ali’s abuse has significantly distorted her perception of herself and the world around her, causing her to question her worth and trust in others.
The court acknowledged that the trauma inflicted by Ali has long-lasting consequences, with the victim expressing fears that her suffering will persist into her future.
Ali, aged 37 and residing at Cheviot Gardens, Lobley Hill, Gateshead, was convicted last month after a trial that confirmed his guilt on nine counts of sexual assault.
The prosecution, led by Matthew Bean, presented a statement from the victim, detailing the profound emotional and psychological toll the abuse has taken on her.
She described feeling isolated and unable to trust anyone, haunted by memories of Ali’s actions.
She expressed feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem, attributing these sentiments to Ali’s manipulation and abuse.
She also shared that even now, small triggers remind her of the trauma, and she continues to suffer from nightmares, often dreaming that Ali is coming to find her.
Her testimony underscored the long-term damage caused by Ali’s predatory behavior, which has left her struggling with sleep and emotional stability.
In addition to the 17-year prison sentence, Ali was ordered to register as a sex offender for life, placed under a sexual harm prevention order, and prohibited from working with children or vulnerable adults.
These measures aim to protect others from potential harm and prevent Ali from reoffending.
During the sentencing hearing, Ali’s defense solicitor, Shaun Routledge, acknowledged the difficulties Ali faces, stating, “He will find any custodial sentence more difficult than a lot of people.
He has found it extremely difficult for the last few weeks and has suffered assaults.” The court’s decision reflects the severity of Ali’s crimes and the lasting damage inflicted upon his young victim, emphasizing the importance of justice and safeguarding vulnerable individuals in the community.
