BRADFORD MAN FAROOQ MIAH SEXUALLY ABUSES 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL ON BAILDON MOOR
In August 2019, a disturbing case emerged involving a married man from Bradford who engaged in the sexual abuse of a young girl on Baildon Moor.The individual, identified as Farooq Miah, aged 29, was convicted and subsequently sentenced to six years in prison for his heinous actions.
According to court proceedings, Miah systematically groomed and manipulated the 13-year-old girl, whom he lured into a false sense of trust through a series of calculated actions.
He bought her gifts, including ice cream and drinks, and engaged in smoking cigarettes with her during their clandestine meetings.
His manipulative tactics extended to isolating her from her family and friends, creating an environment where she felt increasingly dependent on him.
The case came to light after concerns about their contact were raised on a trafficking website.
Prosecutor Gerald Hendron explained that when authorities became involved, Miah instructed the young girl to lie to the police to cover his tracks.
Initially, the girl denied any abuse, attempting to conceal her phone from investigators.
However, she later disclosed that Miah had met her late at night at a fast-food restaurant before taking her onto Baildon Moor in his Audi.
During their time together, Miah bought her ice cream and drinks, and they smoked cigarettes.
The court heard that the abuse escalated from indecent touching to more serious acts, including oral sex.
Miah also recorded a video of the girl performing a sex act on him, which was later discovered by police.
Investigators found a significant amount of evidence, including 996 calls and texts exchanged between Miah and the girl, as well as the video.
Miah pleaded guilty to eight charges related to sexual activity with a child and one count of creating an indecent image.
The girl provided a victim impact statement, revealing that Miah would sulk if she refused to engage in sexual acts and that she believed at the time that he was in love with her.
Her testimony highlighted the profound emotional and psychological damage inflicted by his actions.
During the sentencing hearing, Miah’s legal representative, Taryn Turner, acknowledged his guilty pleas and confirmed that he had been in custody since June 7.
She described the case as serious and emphasized that an immediate custodial sentence was necessary.
Turner also revealed that Miah was married and expecting a child, and she characterized his infatuation with the girl as the driving force behind his offending.
Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC, the Recorder of Bradford, condemned Miah’s conduct, stating that he had seduced a vulnerable 13-year-old girl through grooming and manipulation, fully aware of her age.
The judge emphasized the lasting impact of the abuse on the victim and underscored the severity of Miah’s actions.
As part of his sentence, Miah was ordered to sign the sex offender register indefinitely and was subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order until further notice, reflecting the court’s commitment to safeguarding the community from future harm.
