MAN JAILED FOR SIX YEARS AFTER ADMITTING SEXUAL ABUSE OF YOUNG GIRL
In December 2020, a disturbing case emerged involving Ethan Hopkins, a 20-year-old man from Bridgend, who was found living in a shed following allegations of heinous sexual abuse against a six-year-old girl. The incident came to light after the young victim confided in a family member, revealing that she had been subjected to repeated sexual assaults by Hopkins.
The court heard that the girl, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons, recounted how Hopkins, who was 19 at the time of the abuse, forcibly pulled down her trousers and molested her genital area.
She also described how he asked her to touch his penis, an account that deeply shocked those involved in the case.
Following the allegations, police launched an immediate investigation.
According to prosecutor Byron Broadstock, Hopkins initially attempted to evade arrest by fleeing the scene.
However, he was located and apprehended exactly one week later, in a shed where it appears he had been living since the accusations surfaced.
The police found him residing in this makeshift shelter, which was situated in the vicinity of Bridgend.
Despite denying the allegations during police interviews, claiming he was never alone with the child and denying any physical contact, Hopkins was formally charged with multiple serious offenses.
These included two counts of sexual touching of a child under 13 and one count of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
Hopkins appeared before Cardiff Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to all charges at the magistrates' level.
The court proceedings revealed that he was already serving a five-year sentence for arson committed at a young offenders' institute.
As a result of his latest convictions, Judge Jeremy Jenkins sentenced him to six years in prison.
Furthermore, the court ordered that Hopkins be placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life, reflecting the severity of his crimes.
He was also subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which imposes restrictions aimed at preventing future offenses and protecting the community from potential harm.
