ERIK THOMPSON FROM BOLTON JAILED FOR CHILD ABUSE IMAGES AND VOYEURISM IN SHOCKING CASE
In a serious case that has shocked the community of Bolton, 42-year-old Eric Thompson has been sentenced to prison after being found guilty of possessing indecent images of children, engaging in voyeurism, and viewing extreme pornography.The conviction was announced during a court hearing conducted via video link from Forest Bank Prison, where Thompson appeared to face the consequences of his actions.
Thompson, who does not have a fixed address, admitted to the charges against him, which included four separate offences involving the possession of still images, moving images, extreme pornography, and voyeuristic acts.
His arrest was part of a comprehensive nationwide police operation carried out last November, which uncovered his illicit activities.
At the time of his arrest, Thompson readily admitted his guilt, acknowledging his involvement in the crimes.
The court proceedings revealed that Thompson was initially charged with possessing a variety of disturbing images.
However, further police investigation into his computer revealed a deleted film clip depicting a child undressing and dressing.
Thompson admitted that he had filmed this footage himself in 2012, which led to an additional charge of voyeurism.
The court was informed that these images and videos were primarily for Thompson’s own gratification, and there was no evidence to suggest that he had distributed or shared the material with others.
During the sentencing phase, Thompson appeared visibly distressed, holding his head in his hands as prosecutor Philip Dobson detailed the extent of his offending.
It was disclosed that Thompson had accumulated these illicit images over a period of five years, storing them on his computers.
When police re-arrested him, Thompson made significant admissions and cooperated fully during interviews, openly acknowledging that he has a problem and expressed a desire to seek help to address his issues.
The court also heard about the personal toll Thompson’s actions had taken on his life.
Once employed as a gas engineer, he had lost his job, his home, and his marriage was reportedly on the verge of collapse.
The judge, Graeme Smith, delivered a stern message, stating, “You have lost your job, lost your marriage, lost your home and lost your liberty.
Hopefully, it will encourage you not to pursue this behaviour in future.” As part of his sentence, Thompson was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for a period of seven years, a measure intended to monitor and prevent any future offending.
The case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat the distribution and possession of child abuse images, and highlights the devastating impact such crimes have on victims and communities alike.
