April 2016 Man admits indecent assaults A pervert was jailed for three and a half years after pleading guilty to carrying out indecent assaults and indecency in front of a child. Elwyn Wynne Hughes, 54, formerly a farmer, but now of Scotland Street, Llanrwst, was due to stand trial at Caernarfon Crown Court yesterday but changed his plea to guilty and was sentenced. Prosecutor Oliver King said the abuse had a “terrible” effect on his victim’s life. He said “a massive weight” had been lifted from the victim by Hughes admitting what he did all those years ago and that the victim was “telling the truth”. Maria Masselis, for Hughes, said: “For 17 years he’s lived a lie. He will live with the knowledge of what he has done for the rest of his life.” Sentencing Hughes to an immediate jail term of three and a half years, Mr Recorder Peter Griffiths QC, said his name would be placed on the sexual offenders register indefinitely. He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £170.
