ELLIOTT HOUSTON FROM WIRRAL DESTROYS FUTURE AFTER GROOMING SCHOOLBOY NEAR THIRSK
In a shocking case that has sent ripples through the community, Elliott Houston, a man from Wirral, saw his promising career and aspirations to join law enforcement shattered after he engaged in heinous acts involving a young boy. The incident took place in 2016, but the repercussions have only recently come to light during a court trial that revealed disturbing details about his actions and the extent of his misconduct.Houston, who was 28 years old at the time, was stationed at Dishforth Airfield near Thirsk, serving with the Royal Logistics Corps. His professional life, which was once marked by commendations and respect, was ultimately overshadowed by his involvement in grooming a 14-year-old boy for sexual activity. The court heard that Houston had met the young teenager through Grindr, a gay chat application, which he used to initiate contact with the minor.
The court proceedings detailed how Houston lured the boy to a supermarket car park in Northallerton, where they engaged in sexual acts. This disturbing encounter was part of a pattern of predatory behavior that spanned over a period of time. The court was informed that on the day of the abuse, the boy had been found intoxicated by police and was returned home. However, he later left his residence to meet Houston, indicating a troubling willingness to continue the illicit relationship.
Further revelations uncovered during the trial painted a darker picture of Houston’s activities. It was disclosed that he had been downloading and collecting indecent images of children for several years. These images and videos were shared with a fellow soldier, who pretended to be interested in Houston’s collection. The colleague, a private, was initially unaware of the full extent of Houston’s depravity but grew increasingly disturbed as Houston showed him more images and videos in his barracks room. Houston openly admitted to the private that he had been saving these images for years, revealing a disturbing obsession.
The colleague, horrified by what he saw, became concerned when Houston asked him about the age at which a girl could be considered suitable for sex, estimating 14. The private later received indecent images from Houston and was invited into his room to view more material and watch videos. Recognizing the danger and the criminal nature of Houston’s actions, the colleague decided to gather evidence to report him to authorities.
Houston was ultimately convicted and sentenced to four years in prison. Judge Amanda Rippon, presiding over the case, emphasized the severity of his crimes and the impact on his future. She stated, “He was so concerned, he decided to play along with you to get evidence about your behaviour.” The judge also made it clear that Houston’s longstanding ambition to become a police officer was now permanently out of reach.
During the sentencing, the court heard from the defense that Houston had joined the Army in 2013 with the hope of becoming a police officer. He was highly regarded by his peers, with an annual appraisal describing him as “the workhorse of the troop” and praising him as “a fine role-model, an excellent ambassador and a pleasure to command.” However, the defense also acknowledged that Houston struggled with his sexuality and claimed he had been bullied, which may have contributed to his actions.
Houston, of Brownlow Road, Wirral, pleaded guilty to two charges of sexual activity with a child and 20 counts of making indecent images of children. His criminal conduct has not only ended his military career but has also permanently barred him from pursuing a future in law enforcement, leaving a trail of devastation and broken aspirations in its wake.
