EDWIN WELCH OF DARLINGTON CONVICTED FOR ILLEGAL DOG BREEDING AND SALES
In a recent court case, Edwin Grange Welch, also known as Ned Welch, born in February 1995, faced legal consequences for engaging in unlicensed dog breeding activities in Darlington. Welch resides at 11 Honeypot Lane Caravan Site, Honeypot Lane, Darlington DL3 0YH. His involvement in the breeding and sale of dogs, specifically a litter of cavapoo puppies he advertised on Facebook, led to his conviction.Welch, who is also the director of Easy Car Recycling Ltd, admitted to committing a single offence related to breeding dogs and advertising a business that sells dogs without holding the necessary licensing. The offence was committed over a period spanning from November 22, 2019, to April 28, 2021. The court proceedings revealed that Welch's activities violated regulations designed to ensure responsible breeding practices and animal welfare.
During the hearing, Welch pleaded guilty to the charges, acknowledging his breach of licensing laws. As a result, the court imposed a 12-month conditional discharge, meaning he will not serve time in prison unless he commits another offence within that period. Additionally, Welch was ordered to pay costs amounting to £150, which are intended to cover the expenses of the legal process. Furthermore, he was required to contribute an extra £21, which will be allocated to victim services, supporting those affected by illegal dog breeding activities.
This case highlights ongoing efforts by authorities to clamp down on illegal dog breeding operations, which often operate outside of regulatory oversight, potentially compromising animal welfare and consumer protection. The court's decision underscores the importance of licensing and responsible breeding practices in maintaining standards within the pet industry in Darlington and beyond.
