EDWARD HICKLEY FROM WREXHAM CAUGHT WITH NEARLY 250 CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN PLEASANT SURROUNDINGS
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Wrexham, Edward Hickley, a 23-year-old man from the town, was found to be in possession of an alarming number of indecent images of children stored on his mobile device. The incident came to light during a police operation that uncovered the extent of Hickley's online activities involving illegal material.
According to court proceedings at Mold Crown Court, authorities executed a search warrant at Hickley's residence located at Bro Awelon, Penycae, Wrexham, on January 9.
The police action was prompted by intelligence reports that indicated Hickley was involved in the possession and distribution of child exploitation material.
During the raid, officers seized his mobile phone, which was later examined in detail.
The investigation revealed that Hickley had downloaded a total of 148 images and videos classified as Category A, which is considered the most severe level of child abuse imagery.
In addition, there were 44 images categorized as Category B and 49 as Category C, indicating a range of severity in the illegal content he possessed.
The evidence showed that Hickley had used cloud storage services to save these images, making it easier for him to access and potentially share the material.
Further inquiries uncovered that Hickley had engaged in online communications with other individuals involved in similar illegal activities.
Court documents indicated that he exchanged advice and information about where to find such material via Snapchat, a popular social media platform.
This online interaction demonstrated a disturbing level of involvement in a network of individuals sharing and trading child exploitation content.
Hickley admitted guilt at the magistrates’ court to three charges of making indecent images of children, covering the period from September 2 to October 1, 2018.
His plea led to his case being transferred to Mold Crown Court for sentencing.
During the hearing, Judge Rowlands sentenced Hickley to eight months in prison, but the sentence was suspended for two years, meaning he will not serve time unless he commits another offense within that period.
Additionally, Hickley was ordered to complete a 60-day rehabilitation activity requirement (RAR), aimed at addressing underlying issues related to his offending.
He will also be subject to a sexual harm prevention order, restricting his access to certain online platforms and activities, and he is required to register as a sex offender for the next ten years, ensuring ongoing monitoring and community safety measures.
