DWAYNE KESTO JAILED FOR 16 YEARS IN BIRMINGHAM FOR YEARS OF SEXUAL ABUSE
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the Birmingham community, 40-year-old Dwayne Kesto, a man known to reside on Parkfield Avenue in Harborne, has been convicted and sentenced to a lengthy prison term for a series of horrific sexual offences committed against two young girls over several years.Kesto’s disturbing pattern of abuse, which spanned over a prolonged period, involved manipulative tactics aimed at maintaining silence from his victims.
He repeatedly told the girls that their assaults were to remain a secret, a sinister attempt to shield himself from detection and continue his predatory behavior unchecked.
The abuse persisted until one of the girls confided in a teacher, an action that ultimately led to his exposure.
Following this revelation, Kesto was placed on the run by authorities, eluding arrest for a full three years.
Their efforts to locate him finally bore fruit in March, when police apprehended him.
After his arrest, Kesto was remanded into custody as an extensive and detailed investigation was conducted into his past actions.
Kesto's trial, which lasted for eight days at Wolverhampton Crown Court, culminated in a conviction for the non-recent offences.
Subsequently, at Birmingham Crown Court, he was handed a sentence of 16 years in prison for his crimes.
The severity of his punishment underscores the gravity of his offenses.
Sergeant Jayne Killoch of the West Midlands Police Public Protection Unit commented on the case, highlighting the manipulative nature of Kesto's actions.
She stated, “Kesto told the girls it was their secret, so that he could continue his predatory behaviour.” She further emphasized the courage shown by the victims, noting, “Both girls gave evidence in court, acting with dignity and courage throughout the trial, and I commend their bravery.” Sergeant Killoch expressed hope that bringing Kesto's crimes to justice would aid the recovery process for the survivors.
She also stated, “I hope that seeing their abuser brought to justice goes some way to help them overcome the nightmare they must surely have suffered.” The police officials emphasized their commitment to supporting victims of sexual abuse, pointing out that specially trained officers guide survivors through every phase of the legal process—from initial reporting to courtroom proceedings.
They also work closely with various agencies dedicated to providing ongoing support and comfort to victims, ensuring that no one has to face such trauma alone.
Once he serves his prison sentence, Kesto is expected to be deported to Jamaica, where he is believed to have originated.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and the bravery required for victims to come forward, and the justice they deserve.
