DURAI RAJ SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY IN COVENTRY

A man from Coventry, named Durai Raj, has been formally sentenced to serve time in prison after being found guilty of creating and distributing indecent images of children. The 34-year-old resident of Corley View, Ash Green, engaged in the production and dissemination of highly disturbing sexual abuse material over a span of nearly a decade, raising serious concerns about the safety of minors and the extent of online child exploitation.

According to police investigations, authorities received a crucial tip in May 2024 indicating that Raj had uploaded illicit images of children to the internet. This intelligence prompted a thorough search of his Coventry residence, during which law enforcement officers seized a total of seven electronic devices. Examination of these devices uncovered a staggering collection of over 170,000 images and videos depicting minors being subjected to sexual abuse. The sheer volume and disturbing nature of the material underscored the severity of Raj’s crimes.

Initially, Raj claimed that he had only accessed this material over an eight-month period. However, forensic analysis of the digital files confirmed that his involvement spanned approximately nine years, revealing a long-term pattern of offending. The files were meticulously organized into categories based on the ages of the victims and the types of abuse depicted, which included victims of various ages. Further investigation revealed that Raj not only possessed these images but also actively shared them online with others, contributing to the proliferation of this harmful material.

Following his arrest, Raj was formally charged with three counts of making indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of children and two counts of distributing such images. He subsequently pleaded guilty to these charges during an earlier court hearing. On April 16, at Warwick Crown Court, Raj was sentenced to 30 months in prison. In addition to his custodial sentence, the court imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), aimed at restricting his future online activity and monitoring his behavior to prevent further offenses.

Detective Constable Longmuir of Warwickshire Police emphasized the gravity of Raj’s actions, stating, “Raj is a sexual offender who poses a significant risk to children. Material he possessed and shared can only be described as abhorrent, depicting the most serious sexual offences against children of all ages.” The police force reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to combating online child exploitation, warning the public that “Distributing, possessing, and downloading of indecent images is depraved, and anyone who does it should expect to be prosecuted. Our team of specialist officers is dedicated to targeting those who use the perceived anonymity of the internet to cause serious harm to children.”
