DUNCAN MORGAN AND HIS SHOCKING PREDATORY CRIMES IN HOLSWORTHY AND ABERCARN

A convicted paedophile with a disturbing pattern of grooming and abusing underage girls has been sentenced to six years in prison. Duncan Alistair Morgan, aged 24, from Abercarn, was found guilty of multiple serious sexual offences involving teenage girls from the Holsworthy area. The court heard that Morgan targeted vulnerable young females, manipulating their trust and exploiting their innocence for his own depraved desires.

The allegations against Morgan date back to February 2011, when the initial complaints emerged. These claims prompted a police investigation that was initiated in June of the following year. During the inquiry, authorities uncovered compelling evidence indicating that Morgan was deliberately using his age and social influence to groom underage girls, fostering inappropriate relationships that eventually turned into sexual abuse.

Prosecutor Jeremy Jenkins detailed that Morgan’s interactions with the victims were characterized by an unsettling combination of charm and predatory intent. “It became apparent from information that had been obtained that the defendant was associating with much younger children,” Mr. Jenkins explained. “He appeared laidback and cool, to use some of the expressions, which further attracted the girls to him.”

One of the victims recounted that she was at home when Morgan followed her into an upstairs bedroom. There, he proceeded to kiss her and inappropriately touched her by putting his hand down her trousers. Despite the severity of the incident, Morgan told her to forget about what had happened, claiming that no one else needed to know.

Another underage girl was targeted through social media. Morgan utilized flattering messages on Facebook to gain her confidence and build a sense of trust. It was through this method of manipulation that he convinced her to have sex with him on top of a car bonnet. After the act, Morgan continued to communicate with her via text messages, initially offering apologies for his behavior.

A third victim was approached in a public toilet, where Morgan attempted to initiate sexual activity. The last girl involved was intoxicated at the time; she later woke up to find Morgan with his hand down her trousers — an act of blatant exploitation. Prosecutors emphasized that Morgan exploited his relative experience, independence, and age to groom these vulnerable young females.

Morgan’s arrest followed these revelations, although initially he denied most of the allegations to authorities, claiming he was unaware of the girls’ ages and that they were not truthful. However, as the case proceeded to trial, Morgan, who lives on Bridge Street, Abercarn, entered guilty pleas to the remaining charges on the second day of proceedings. His defense solicitor, Hugh Wallace, noted that Morgan’s decision to plead guilty spared the victims from the ordeal of giving evidence in court.

In a letter read to the court, Morgan expressed remorse and provided insight into his difficult upbringing, suggesting that his troubled background contributed to his actions. Nonetheless, the sentencing judge, Daniel Williams, was unequivocal in condemning Morgan’s conduct. Morgan received a total sentence of six years and three months, with the judge describing his behavior as “predatory” and highlighting the profound and lasting damage caused to the victims.

Judge Williams stressed that these young girls were coerced into unwanted sexual encounters by Morgan and that they could never recover what they lost. Following the hearing, Detective Sergeant Sarah Goodchild from Gwent Police commented on the conviction, stating, “We are pleased to see Duncan Morgan sentenced for the crimes he committed today. He consistently and deliberately befriended children then went on to sexually assault them. The impact of his crimes will undoubtedly have a long-lasting effect on the victims in this case, but it was their bravery in having the courage to come forward and give evidence that saw him brought to justice today.”
