Duncan Jones

Lillington Sexual Abuser

May 2005 Jail sentence for man who raped 12-year-old girl A Leamington man who raped a young girl after carrying out a series of disgusting sex assaults on her in a bid to get her pregnant has been jailed for eight years. And Duncan Jones, who turned up at Warwick Crown Court with his partner and their own young child, was also ordered to register as a sex offender and banned from working with children for life. Jones, 43, of Lillington, had originally denied raping the 12-year-old girl, although he admitted two charges of indecently assaulting her, but changed his plea to guilty at a hearing last month. Following an adjournment for a pre-sentence report to be prepared on Jones, prosecutor Jane Sarginson said the girl’s mother became worried that Jones was having an inappropriate relationship with her. There were also concerns at the girl’s school about her behaviour, so social workers carried out an investigation, but the girl denied that anything inappropriate had happened. Jones was made subject to an order not to have any contact with the girl, but ignored them and sent her a number of inappropriate text messages. But in the spring of 2003 the girl was suffering nightmares, and finally revealed what had been happening by writing it down – disclosing that Jones had told her he wanted to marry her, and that he wanted to get her pregnant. Miss Sarginson said the first indecent assault charge related to occasions when he had kissed the girl and touched her intimately under her clothing. The girl said she did not tell her parents or anyone else about the incidents because she was scared of Jones. When he was arrested in July that year Jones denied any indecent behaviour towards the girl, but later failed to surrender to his bail and was not re-arrested until last year, added Miss Sarginson. Peter Freeman, defending, said Jones had had a good work record, but then lost his job after his life became ‘consumed by alcohol’ and he became an alcoholic. Although he originally denied the rape allegation, Jones accepted what he had done after being shown part of the girl’s video interview with the police, which was when the case was re-listed for him to change his plea. “He has expressed shame and disgust for his actions,” added Mr Freeman. Jailing Jones, Judge Christopher Hodson told him: “She was 12 years old at that time. She was used by you for your sexual gratification over a period of time, and you eventually committed an extremely grave offence of rape on this girl.”
