In June last year, Donovan Johns was handed a suspended jail sentence for two assaults, including causing injury to an 18-week-old infant during an attack on the child's mother. The baby was injured, struck by a blow that Johns aimed at the woman.
He also received two additional suspended sentences for public disorder violations and breaching bail conditions.
His incarceration became necessary after he was involved in a nightclub assault in South Shields town centre.
Court proceedings at Newcastle Crown Court disclosed that Johns, who was already under three suspended sentences, approached his ex-girlfriend—who was on a night out at Glitterball—and became aggressive.
He punched a man who tried to intervene and continued his aggressive behaviour outside.
The prosecutor, Michael Bunch, stated that Johns threatened her, saying he would burn down her family’s house with her inside, and made a slashing gesture across his own throat while pointing at her.
Previously of South Shields, Johns now resides on Briardene Drive, Wardley, Gateshead, and pleaded guilty to charges of common assault and public order offences.
Judge Robert Adams sentenced him to a total of 14 months imprisonment.
