DONALD CAMPBELL BRADFORD PAEDOPHILE CAUGHT IN ONLINE TRAP AT SHIBDEN PARK
In a disturbing case that has shocked the Bradford community, Donald Campbell, a 48-year-old man from Bradford, was caught in an elaborate online sting operation that exposed his attempts to engage in sexual activities with a minor.The incident unfolded when Campbell, who worked as a computer software engineer for the Royal Mail, was lured into a trap set up by paedophile investigators using a fake online identity.
According to court proceedings at Bradford Crown Court, Campbell had been grooming a fictitious 14-year-old girl, known as “Little Laura,” on the internet.
The investigation was part of a broader effort led by paedophile exposer Griff Roberts, who created the “Little Laura 18” persona to entrap predators and gather evidence against them.
Campbell, who called himself Don Campbell NSA on the Badu internet chat site, believed he was communicating with a young girl interested in meeting up.
Prosecutor Richard Smith revealed that Campbell’s online conversations indicated a disturbing intent.
Campbell expressed a desire to meet “Little Laura” in person, asking her for her breast measurements and whether he could touch her sexually.
He also requested explicit photographs, asking her to wear a thin top during their supposed meeting.
The court heard that Campbell’s initial claim was that he was seeking “a regular young girl,” but his messages quickly turned to sexual content.
On June 28, Campbell asked “Little Laura” for a “sexy picture” and expressed his desire for her to be bra-less when they met.
The police had been monitoring the communications and, on July 9, Campbell traveled to Shibden Park in Halifax, believing he was about to meet the underage girl.
Instead, he encountered Griff Roberts, who was filming the encounter on a camcorder.
During the meeting, Campbell openly admitted he was there to meet “Little Laura,” and the footage captured his intentions clearly.
The police seized Campbell’s computers from his home in Bradford, which contained over 50 child pornography movies and numerous indecent images of children.
The material included videos depicting infants as young as four years old engaging in sexual acts with adults, highlighting the severity of his offending.
Campbell was also found to have multiple indecent images stored on his devices.
During police interviews, Campbell admitted that he was intoxicated every night while using his computer, which may have contributed to his actions.
His barrister, Jayne Beckett, argued that Campbell had been in prison on remand for six months and claimed there was an element of entrapment in the case.
She emphasized that Campbell has a wife and children and expressed concern about his need for rehabilitation.
She also noted that he was not permitted to return to his family home or have unsupervised contact with his two children and stepchild.
Judge Colin Burn sentenced Campbell to a three-year community order with supervision, including 60 days of high-intensity treatment for sex offenders.
The judge condemned the offending as abhorrent and emphasized the public’s revulsion towards such crimes.
The case underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat online grooming and child exploitation, especially in the Bradford area, where Campbell’s offenses took place.
