DOMINIC NIELEN-GROEN AND SHOCKING CHILD GROOMING IN WOLVERHAMPTON AND EAST DEVON
A judge at Exeter Crown Court has publicly criticized Instagram for enabling a platform that facilitates the grooming of minors, specifically highlighting its hosting of a controversial community centered around adult men and young girls. The court proceedings revealed disturbing details about how social media giants like Instagram are being exploited by individuals with malicious intent.
Dominic Nielen-Groen, a 39-year-old man from Wolverhampton, was convicted of grooming a vulnerable 15-year-old girl through the platform.
The court heard that Nielen-Groen used Instagram’s 'Daddy Dom Little Girl' (DDLG) community to establish a connection with the teenager, whom he referred to as a 'little.' Over a period of weeks, he engaged in a series of messages with her, gradually building a relationship that crossed appropriate boundaries.
According to court records, Nielen-Groen, who used the alias 'Papa Bear' within the community, initially communicated with the girl via Instagram.
The girl, who had created her account under the name 'F****** Little Brat,' attracted over 3,000 followers in just a few weeks.
She engaged in sexually charged conversations with numerous older men, sometimes exchanging messages with as many as 500 at a time.
She also sold explicit images of her body, including her breasts and buttocks, to these men through PayPal transactions.
The girl’s mother provided a victim impact statement, describing the severe psychological effects her daughter has endured.
She now exhibits intense anger, has experienced three suicide attempts, and suffers from frequent screaming rages.
Her involvement in the online community and the exploitation she faced have caused lasting trauma.
The investigation into Nielen-Groen’s activities was initiated after the girl contacted police earlier this year.
Authorities traced the messages back to him, leading to a search of his residence.
During the search, officers discovered a dummy and a collar inscribed with the words 'Little Girl' in his bedroom.
They also found a contract resembling a 50 Shades of Grey-style agreement, outlining rules and punishments that included spanking, self-spanking, slaps, cold baths, and being tied up.
Some of these rules were explicitly sexual, forbidding masturbation and participation in certain sex acts at the behest of the 'Daddy.' Nielen-Groen, a graduate of Birmingham City University, resided on Annan Road in Wolverhampton.
He denied meeting a child with the intent to commit a sexual offence after grooming her.
However, the court found sufficient evidence to convict him.
He was sentenced to 18 months in prison by Recorder Mr.
Jonathan Barnes.
Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender and was subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which restricts his future contact with minors and allows authorities to monitor his internet activity.
During the trial, the judge criticized Instagram for its failure to provide chat logs of the conversations between Nielen-Groen and the girl.
He expressed concern that social media companies often prioritize their business interests over the administration of justice, which hampers efforts to combat online child exploitation.
The court acknowledged that the DDLG community is frequently exploited by paedophiles, with the judge stating, 'It is clear that the DDLG community is widely used by paedophiles like Nielen-Groen.' He emphasized that while some members may not have paedophile tendencies, many, including Nielen-Groen, join these groups because they have a sexual interest in children.
The judge pointed out that Nielen-Groen traveled from Wolverhampton to Seaton, East Devon, with the clear intention of meeting the girl for a sexual purpose, fully aware of her age.
During the four-day trial, Nielen-Groen claimed he was unaware of the girl’s age, believing her to be an adult engaged in role-play and age-play fantasies.
He insisted that his trip to Devon was not motivated by any intent to commit a sexual offence and expressed shock when she revealed her age at the meeting.
The girl explained that she joined the DDLG community out of loneliness and a desire to make friends online.
She initially found the community exciting but soon realized that some users had sinister motives.
Her Instagram account remained active for months before it was removed by the platform.
She recounted that her account grew rapidly, and she became part of a community where she knew her actions were somewhat risky.
She admitted to taking and sending pictures of her body, including her chest and buttocks, for money.
She estimated that she had around 500 contacts messaging her simultaneously, many of whom sought sexual conversations.
She acknowledged that she sometimes lied about her age, telling men she was 15 when some knew she was underage.
The girl detailed her experience of receiving over 20 messages daily, engaging in numerous conversations with men, some of whom she blocked when she realized their intentions.
Despite the risks, she continued to participate in the community, driven by a desire for attention and connection, even though she recognized the inappropriate and dangerous nature of some interactions.
