MARTIAL ARTS FIGHTER JAILED FOR VICIOUS DOMESTIC ASSAULT ON GIRLFRIEND
A 21-year-old martial arts fighter named Dominic McCluskey was sentenced to 13 months in prison after he brutally assaulted his girlfriend while she was asleep in bed.The court was told that after a night out on February 21, McCluskey searched through her mobile phone and read old messages before beginning a violent attack.
He repeatedly punched and kicked her in a beating that lasted up to an hour, leaving her with numerous serious injuries including broken ribs, a fractured nose, a missing front tooth, swelling, and black eyes.
Brogan Sloan, the victim and mother to a two-year-old, described the attack, saying, "I thought I was going to die, all I could see and taste was blood.
I had a missing tooth and I could hardly breathe." She criticized the sentence, believing it was too short, and expressed her fear that McCluskey is capable of reoffending.
She added, "He should have been given a lot longer than 13 months.
It’s a bit of a joke really.
He deserves to be punished and locked up for a long time for what he did to me." The court heard that McCluskey, who is also known from his background as a K1 fighter, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
He also admitted to assaulting a police officer and causing criminal damage.
Brogan emphasized that she has suffered greatly, including insomnia and fear of her son being scared of her because of her appearance after the attack.
She stated, "I am a much stronger person now after what I have been through." The judge remarked that the attack was prolonged, vicious, and sustained, emphasizing the seriousness of the injuries inflicted.
McCluskey's lawyer claimed the assault was 'out of character' and highlighted that he is capable of work, earning £300-£400 a week as a ground worker and stating he would return to work once free.
Brogan expressed her disillusionment about justice, stating, "I don't think he will learn his lesson.
He will just come out and go back to his old ways." The judge was told McCluskey's previous convictions did not include domestic abuse and that this incident was a sudden loss of temper.
The case was concluded with a stern warning about the seriousness of domestic abuse, emphasizing its gravity and the importance of punishment to prevent future violence.
