DEREK LAMPITT'S SHOCKING ABUSE IN BIRMINGHAM: VICTIM RECEIVES OVER £200,000 IN DAMAGES

In a harrowing case that has sent shockwaves through Birmingham, a man named Derek Lampitt, aged 54, has been held accountable for a series of heinous sexual offenses committed against three young girls.

The case, which culminated in a High Court ruling, has resulted in Lampitt being ordered to pay a substantial sum exceeding £200,000 to one of his victims, a woman who endured severe trauma as a result of his actions.

Lampitt, formerly residing on Howard Road in the Handsworth area of Birmingham, was previously sentenced to eight years in prison at Birmingham Crown Court on September 11, 2009.

His conviction was based on multiple charges, including engaging in sexual activity with a child, causing a child to participate in sexual acts, and committing ten counts of indecent assault.

The severity of his crimes and the impact on his victims have been widely acknowledged in the legal proceedings.

Among the victims was a woman now in her twenties, who was subjected to abuse by Lampitt during her childhood.

Her legal representative, David McClenaghan, appeared before the High Court to advocate for her compensation.

He detailed how Lampitt’s abuse began when she was still a young girl, leading to long-lasting psychological scars.

The woman now suffers from persistent depression and chronic post-traumatic stress disorder, conditions that have significantly affected her quality of life.

During the court hearing, she shared her emotional struggles, stating, “I think I have come to terms with the fact that I actually need help.

I tried to fight it for many years.

After I spoke to the psychiatrist I realised it is not weak to get help if you need it.” She also expressed her fears as a mother, revealing that her traumatic past has made her over-protective of her own child, worrying that someone might hurt him as she was hurt.

Her aspirations of becoming a probation officer were derailed by her experiences, with her school attendance and GCSE results suffering due to the ongoing police investigation and her subsequent trial.

The court heard that she now struggles with broken sleep, nightmares, flashbacks, and low self-esteem.

She described her experience of the trial as a “living nightmare,” stating that she could not think about anything else or find relief from the memories.

Judge Peter Hughes QC acknowledged her honesty and the profound impact the abuse has had on her life.

He remarked, “She impressed me as a totally straightforward and honest witness who plainly has been deeply and lastingly affected by the abuse that she suffered.

No award of money can compensate for the harm done and its scarring effects on a young person’s life and well-being.” The judge emphasized that her suffering occurred during a critical period of her adolescence, which was marked by a significant and persistent abuse that has fundamentally altered her life’s trajectory.

He further noted that, had she been raised in a normal environment, her future might have been different, but the abuse she endured has left indelible scars.

The fact that Lampitt denied the allegations and forced her to testify added to her trauma, the judge said.

As a result, the court awarded her damages totaling £184,607, with interest to be added, bringing the total payout to over £200,000.

This compensation is intended to cover her pain and suffering, as well as her lost earnings.

Lampitt, who did not attend the hearing and was not legally represented, has been given 14 days to settle the damages.

Additionally, he has been ordered to pay the substantial legal costs associated with the case, including a specific sum of £30,000 to be paid within two weeks.

The case highlights the ongoing issues of sexual abuse and the importance of justice for victims, especially those whose lives are forever altered by such heinous acts committed in Birmingham.
