EAST KILBRIDE MAN AVOIDS JAIL AFTER 'CATALOGUE OF VIOLENCE' AGAINST PARTNER
A man named Derek Johnston, aged 29, has been convicted of a serious act of domestic violence against his partner in East Kilbride. The court heard that Johnston attacked the woman at his residence in Glen Moy on May 10 of the previous year.
The jury found him guilty of grabbing her by the neck, which restricted her breathing, dragging her across the floor from a bed, and shoving her against a wall.
Although he was acquitted of striking her with a baseball bat, Johnston was convicted of possessing cocaine.
The sheriff in charge of the case expressed his disapproval of Johnston's behavior, stating that it was a significant catalogue of violence, and highlighted Johnston's denial of responsibility.
As a result, Johnston received a sentence of 18 months of social work supervision and 240 hours of unpaid community work as an alternative to imprisonment.
Additionally, he was placed under electronic monitoring and banned from contacting the victim for five years.
Johnston was warned that any violation of these orders could lead to jail time.
