DENNIS LANE AND SHOCKING CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN BRADFORD

Dennis Lane, a previously convicted child sex offender from Bradford, has faced yet another custodial sentence after admitting to being obsessively fixated on a young girl and fantasising about her, the victim he assaulted approximately thirty years ago.

The case was heard at Bradford Crown Court, where it was revealed that Lane, now aged 79, had a criminal history marked by a ten-year prison sentence in 1996 for child abuse.

Over the years, he had repeatedly been subjected to lengthy imprisonment terms for violating protective orders that were put in place to prevent him from re-offending.

These orders, known as Sexual Harm Prevention Orders (SHPOs), were meant to restrict his activities and curtail his access to potential victims.

Despite these interventions, Judge Ahmed Nadim highlighted that Lane's behavior persisted.

He referenced a report indicating that Lane was now considered an ingrained offender, displaying an inability to accept responsibility or show remorse for his actions.

This pattern of behavior underscored the difficulty authorities faced in rehabilitating him, as he appeared to be entrenched in his offending tendencies.

The recent incident unfolded when police received reports of concerning conduct involving Lane.

Acting on this information, officers conducted a search of his residence located on Denton Row, Denholme.

During the search, they discovered a collection of items that raised significant alarm.

Among the seized items were books featuring images of Princess Diana and containing photographs of children, which were deemed inappropriate and indicative of troubling interests.

Additionally, officers found a large doll resembling a child, which had been discovered in Lane's bed, further emphasizing his inappropriate fixation.

Prosecutor Maryam Ahmad provided details to the court, explaining that local children had expressed discomfort about Lane’s conduct.

They reported that he would engage them in conversation that appeared unusual or unsettling.

Furthermore, a teacher observed Lane speaking with a young girl who seemed visibly uncomfortable in his presence, adding to the concerns about his behavior.

Lane was subject to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which had been imposed in 2018.

Under this order, he was explicitly forbidden from having any form of contact with children.

Additionally, he was prohibited from entering within fifty metres of any playground, and he was forbidden from possessing any images of children.

These restrictions aimed to reduce the risk posed by Lane and to prevent any further offences.

The narrative took a turn when Lane was arrested in October of the previous year.

Initially, he denied having any sexual interest in the young girl, attempting to dismiss the allegations.

However, under further questioning, he admitted to being 'fixated' on her and acknowledged that he fantasised about his previous victim.

He also confessed to using images of children and the doll for sexual gratification, indicating a disturbing pattern of behaviour.

Lane subsequently admitted to breaching the terms of his Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

As a result, he was sentenced to an additional three years and nine months in prison for this breach.

During proceedings, Lane's barrister, Imran Khan, commented that his client desired a peaceful, quiet life away from society, seeking to withdraw from social interactions entirely.

The judge, Judge Ahmed Nadim, expressed skepticism about this strategy, asking, “So his strategy for avoiding further offending is to become a recluse?” To which Mr.

Khan responded affirmatively, emphasizing that Lane wanted to distance himself as much as possible.

Judge Nadim concluded by stating that Lane fully understood the likelihood of incarceration and had accepted this reality, showing he had come to terms with the inevitable.

This latest imprisonment underscores the ongoing challenges in managing offenders like Lane, whose past and present conduct continue to pose a serious threat to public safety.
