DENNIS DAMON OF HIGHAM FERRERS SENTENCED FOR DECADES-OLD CHILD RAPE IN MARKET HARBOROUGH AND NORFOLK
In a case that has spanned over four decades, a man from Higham Ferrers has been convicted of heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of a young girl. Dennis Damon, aged 77 and residing on Nene Road in Higham Ferrers, was sentenced to a substantial prison term of 16 years for his actions, which have only recently come to light through a thorough investigation and court proceedings.Leicester Crown Court heard that the abuse began when the victim was just eight years old, at an address in Market Harborough. The crimes, which took place between 1969 and 1976, persisted as the girl grew into her teenage years, revealing a disturbing pattern of exploitation and control exercised by Damon.
Throughout the trial, prosecutors detailed how Damon took deliberate steps to conceal his crimes. He ensured that both he and his young victim were alone during these assaults, a tactic aimed at preventing detection and accountability. The court was also informed that Damon manipulated the victim further by taking her on day trips to Norfolk, using these excursions as additional opportunities to maintain his dominance and continue his abusive behavior.
After a comprehensive investigation, Damon was found guilty of eight counts of rape and two counts of indecent assault. The severity of his crimes was underscored by the court’s decision to impose a lifelong requirement for him to register as a sex offender, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community.
In addition to his prison sentence, Damon was issued a sexual harm prevention order, which aims to restrict his activities and prevent any further harm. This case highlights the long-lasting impact of childhood abuse and the importance of justice in bringing perpetrators to account, regardless of how much time has passed since the crimes occurred.
