Blackburn Man Jailed for Assaulting Ex-Girlfriend After Restraining Order

BLACKBURN MAN JAILED FOR ASSAULTING EX-GIRLFRIEND AFTER RESTRAINING ORDER

A man named Declan Batty, aged 24, has been convicted of multiple assaults against his ex-girlfriend.

The court heard he contacted her just two weeks after being ordered to stay away.

Batty had already been in court for assaulting this woman, with whom he was in a relationship for about two years.

He was subjected to a restraining order banning contact for three years.

Within two weeks of the order, Batty contacted her again, and they resumed meeting.

On June 6, 2021, an argument led him to throw a TV, smashing a mirror, and then he pushed her into the broken glass, causing a serious cut which required hospital treatment.

On December 4, 2022, during a second assault, Batty became aggressive when she looked at his phone.

He gripped her face, pinned her to the bed, punched her so hard her vision blurred, and attempted to smash her face against a cabinet.

During the struggle, Batty grabbed a candle holder and hit her on the back of the head, then ripped up her driving license in front of her.

Police arrived and observed her injuries, leading to Batty's arrest.

The woman reported that her mental health worsened due to his assaults and stated he would attack her approximately every three weeks.

She expressed her desire to end the relationship and rebuild trust with family and friends.

Batty pleaded guilty to two counts of assault and breaching a restraining order.

His defense argued that he is remorseful and has learned his lesson at age 24.

The court, however, condemned his behaviour, highlighting that he has two convictions for assaulting women and should feel ashamed.

Recorder Paul Hodgkinson sentenced Batty to two years and one month in prison and issued a new restraining order banning contact for five years.

Batty was from Wellington Road, Blackburn.
