Dean Young received a sentence of 20 weeks in jail and was prohibited from keeping animals for a period of 20 years after admitting to causing unnecessary suffering to four horses, one of which was pregnant, while they were in a paddock off Manor Way.
During a previous hearing at Dudley magistrates, he pleaded guilty, acknowledging responsibility for three of the horses' conditions but claiming that the fourth horse, named Rambo, belonged to a friend.
Magistrates, noting that Young, aged 34 from Hilton Road, Tividale, had failed to properly investigate and address the reasons behind the animals’ weight loss, explained that a veterinary expert rated their condition at between 0.5 and 0 on a scale of 0 to 5.
The RSPCA removed all four horses from the field, and they have since recovered.
