DEAN HADDON FROM ISLE OF WIGHT CAUGHT WITH OVER 700 CHILD INDECENT IMAGES
In a disturbing case that has shocked the Isle of Wight community, Dean Haddon, a 50-year-old school bus driver from Downsview, Sandown, has admitted to possessing an alarming number of indecent images of children.The case came to light after police investigations revealed that Haddon was in possession of more than 700 such images, including some of the most severe categories of child exploitation material.
Haddon pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including the distribution of two Category C images through Skype, as well as possessing 51 Category A images—classified as the most serious—along with an additional 56 Category B images and a staggering 637 Category C images depicting children in various states of exploitation.
The authorities also found 581 extreme pornographic images and 56 prohibited images that contained overtly pornographic content involving children, which further compounded the severity of his offenses.
The case was heard at the Isle of Wight Crown Court, where it was revealed that the images involved very young children, including babies and toddlers.
Prosecutor Adam Norris detailed how police had seized Haddon’s laptop and mobile phone for forensic analysis after receiving information that an IP address linked to his residence was involved in downloading illegal images.
The investigation was prompted by this digital footprint, which led officers directly to Haddon’s home.
When police arrived at his address, Haddon offered a guarded admission, which resulted in his arrest.
During the proceedings, Mr Norris highlighted that Haddon’s online activity included a variety of indecent Google searches, with terms that clearly indicated an intent to find and view illegal photographs of children.
In sentencing, Recorder Anna Midgley described the gravity of the case, emphasizing the disturbing nature of the images involved.
Haddon was sentenced to 15 months in prison, but this sentence was suspended for two years, meaning he would not serve time unless he committed another offense within that period.
Additionally, a sexual harm prevention order was imposed to restrict his future activities, and he was ordered to pay £140 in court costs.
Haddon was also mandated to attend 50 days of rehabilitation programs aimed at addressing his behavior.
As part of the court’s rulings, his laptop and phone are to be destroyed to prevent further misuse.
Haddon received a 25 percent reduction in his sentence due to his early guilty plea, which likely contributed to the leniency of the sentence.
This case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat child exploitation and protect vulnerable victims from harm, especially within local communities such as the Isle of Wight.
