April 2000 Paedophile jailed for net porn; Images of young girls found A ‘CORRUPTED and perverted voyeur’ who downloaded porngraphic images of children as young as three from the internet has been jailed for nine months. Judge John Shand told David Sibley (31), of Bushbury Road, Wolverhampton: ‘You downloaded these disgraceful hard-core pornographic images. ‘You did not take any original photographs and there is no evidence of distribution. I accept there is no evidence that you are an active paedophile. ‘But you dowloaded this material and it is easily done for corrupt and perverted voyeurism.’ Sibley appeared for sentence at Stafford Crown Court yesterday after he admitted 16 offences of making indecent photographs of children. He asked for ten similar offences to be considered and was told to register as a sex offender for seven years. Mark Shaw (31), of Nelson Drive, Hednesford, near Cannock, who owned the computer, was ordered carry out 100 hours’ community service and placed on probation for two years. Shaw admitted two similar offences and told to register as a sex offender for five years. Peter Grice, prosecuting, said that after a tip-off police from the Staffordshire Vice andPaedophile Unit raided Shaw’s home. ‘Computers were examined by experts and images were found of girls aged between three and 16. Some were from this country and others from Europe,’ he said. Mr Grice said Sibley admitted downloading the images. ‘His only excuse was that it was for a voyeuristic interest. He said he had no sexual interest in children.’ Martin Liddiard, defending Sibley, said: ‘These two men fall at the bottom of the scale of offending. This was unusual escapism, curiosity and voyeurism into this bizarre world and for something to do. ‘He genuinely did not realise how seriously a court might view the possession of such images.’ Janet Newman, for Shaw, said: ‘He never tried to minimise his involvement. ‘He deleted the images from his files. His view of these particular files is that they were sick.’
