DUMFRIES MAN DAVID ROZYNSKI SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT NEAR TINWALD DOWNS ROAD
In February 2014, David Rozynski, aged 26, was sentenced to 16 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to assaulting a young girl near Tinwald Downs Road in Heathhall, Dumfries, the previous August. Despite the sentence, Rozynski was released early from custody because he had already served six months while awaiting trial, which is considered equivalent to a full 12-month jail term. As part of his sentence, he was also placed on the sex offenders’ register for a period of ten years, reflecting the severity of his crimes and the need for ongoing monitoring. The incident that led to Rozynski’s conviction involved a disturbing grooming and assault case involving a 12-year-old girl. The events unfolded in August when Rozynski, a resident of Glencairn Road in Dumfries, used social media platform Facebook to lure the young girl into a private meeting. According to court reports, Rozynski arranged to meet her at a secluded location, which he referred to as his “secret den,” and explicitly instructed her to keep their plans confidential.
Details from the court proceedings revealed that during initial online exchanges, Rozynski was told by the girl that she was only 12 years old. He responded by claiming he was 18, attempting to conceal his true age. He then asked if they could meet in person, and when she agreed, he suggested they go to his “secret den,” emphasizing the importance of secrecy. The girl’s mother, concerned about her daughter’s online activity, checked her computer and discovered the conversations. She immediately forbade her from going out that evening, but the girl, desperate for a breath of fresh air, begged her mother for permission. When her mother was momentarily distracted, the girl left through a window and ran away.
Police were contacted, and Rozynski was traced back to his home. Initially, he denied any wrongdoing and claimed he had not assaulted the girl. However, as the investigation progressed, it became clear that Rozynski had arranged to meet the girl again the following day. During their second meeting, Rozynski suggested they go to a quiet place, and he proposed a game of “dare,” which involved either performing a task or removing clothing. The girl, feeling uncomfortable, tried to distance herself from him, but Rozynski made inappropriate advances. She attempted to push him away, but the assault occurred at a nearby dead-end road.
After the incident, the girl returned home and initially said nothing about what had happened. However, she later confided in a 14-year-old friend, who then informed her mother. The girl’s mother, upon learning the truth, reported the incident to the authorities. Rozynski was subsequently arrested and questioned. During police interviews, he maintained that he had not assaulted the girl and denied any indecent acts. Despite his denials, the evidence and court proceedings led to his conviction.
Judge George Jamieson, presiding over the case, ordered a background report before sentencing. He also mandated that Rozynski be registered as a sex offender for ten years. The judge emphasized that the length of his sentence would be finalized at the sentencing hearing scheduled for January. At the time of the offense, Rozynski was on bail, which underscored the seriousness of his actions and the importance of judicial oversight in this case.
