DAVID ROBINSON FROM BIRMINGHAM AND NORTHFIELD JAILED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY

In a case that has sent shockwaves through the local communities of Birmingham and Northfield, David Robinson, a 41-year-old salesman, has been sentenced to 12 months in prison after being found guilty of possessing and distributing a significant number of indecent images of children. The conviction was secured following a detailed investigation that uncovered the disturbing extent of Robinson's online activities.

Robinson's arrest came after police executed a search at his residence in Northfield in February. During the search, authorities recovered three computers that contained a disturbing collection of illegal material. These included numerous indecent photographs and video clips depicting children, some of which portrayed extremely serious and revolting acts of abuse. Among the most disturbing images was one that depicted the rape of a child approximately 18 months old, a detail that the Birmingham Crown Court highlighted as particularly heinous.

The court heard that Robinson had admitted to five charges of making indecent photographs of children and seven charges of distributing such images. His actions are believed to be among the first cases in the West Midlands where an individual was found to be actively distributing obscene images of minors, marking a significant point in local law enforcement efforts against child exploitation.

Judge Charles Wide QC emphasized the gravity of Robinson's crimes, stating, 'The court's primary concern in cases of this kind is the protection of children. The demand for images of the kind you downloaded from the internet encourages their supply, and the supply of such images involves the very grave abuse of children.' The judge further described the images as varying in nature but including some depicting very serious abuse, with one particularly appalling scene involving the rape of a young child.

Prosecutor Matthew Brook detailed the findings from the police search, revealing that Robinson's computers contained not only images of children but also photographs of adults dressed as schoolchildren. When questioned, Robinson admitted to being attracted to young girls around the age of 14. Additionally, thousands of other images of an adult nature were discovered on his devices.

Robinson explained that he had been in contact with an individual through an adult chat room, which may have facilitated his access to such material. His defense attorney, Caroline Spedding, stated that the images found on Robinson's computers were part of a broader investigation, implying that the case was linked to wider efforts to combat online child exploitation.

As part of his sentence, Robinson was also placed on the sex offenders register for ten years, reflecting the serious nature of his crimes and the ongoing threat posed by individuals involved in the distribution of child abuse material.
