June 2017 Wrexham man changes pleas to admit ten sex charges A Wrexham man changed his pleas and admitted a total of ten sex charges. Defendant David Paul Roberts, 63, of Dol Acton, Wrexham, was bailed pending sentence at Mold Crown Court. Judge Niclas Parry ordered him to register with the police as a sex offender in the meantime. He warned Roberts to expect a significant prison sentence but said a pre-sentence report was required so that the court would know more about him before he was sentenced. Roberts, who had no previous convictions, had pleaded not guilty and was due to go on trial today. But just before the trial was due start he pleaded guilty to four charges of sexual assault, one charge of attempted sexual assault by penetration, and five charges of causing a child to engage in sexual activity. The judge told him he would still get some credit in sentence despite his late guilty pleas. He said the complainant had to attend court but she had not had to give evidence. Judge Parry told the jury who had been sworn in to hear the trial that sometimes defendants had to “see the white of the eyes” of the court before they saw reality.
