WREXHAM MUSIC TEACHER DAVID PARSONAGE SENTENCED FOR INDECENT ASSAULT ON TEENAGE PUPIL
In July 2015, David Parsonage, a well-known and highly regarded music instructor from Wrexham, was sentenced for a serious criminal offense involving a teenage pupil. The incident, which took place over two decades earlier, involved inappropriate conduct in a pub setting and resulted in a conviction that has garnered significant attention.
Parsonage, aged 68 and residing on St Margaret Way in Wrexham, had dedicated over 30 years of his life to teaching music, during which he instructed thousands of schoolchildren across the region.
Despite his long-standing career and reputation, he was found guilty of a single count of indecent assault by a jury at Caernarfon Crown Court.
The jury reached a verdict of 10 to 2 in favor of guilt.
The court heard that the incident occurred in a pub in Wrexham, where Parsonage, reportedly intoxicated at the time, engaged in a drunken hug with the teenage girl.
Following this, he proceeded to indecently assault her by placing his hand down her trousers.
The judge, Recorder Wyn Lloyd Jones, addressed Parsonage directly, stating, “You were drunk and she was with her friends wanting to enjoy herself.
You started it off with a drunken hug and it was then afterwards you indecently assaulted her, putting your hand down her trousers.
It must have been highly upsetting for her.” As part of his sentence, Parsonage was ordered to serve 12 months under supervision and was also mandated to complete 200 hours of unpaid community service.
The court's decision also included a significant consequence for his criminal record: his name will no longer be listed on the sex offenders’ register, effectively removing him from the list of registered sex offenders.
This outcome reflects the court’s judgment on the severity of the offense and the circumstances surrounding it.
While the incident dates back over 20 years, the conviction and subsequent sentencing serve as a reminder of the importance of accountability and justice, regardless of the passage of time.
The case has resonated within the community of Wrexham, where Parsonage’s reputation as a respected educator was well established prior to this conviction.
