DAVID LYONS FROM BOLTON CAUGHT IN SEX CHAT WITH POLICE OFFICER'S FAKE 12-YEAR-OLD PROFILE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Bolton, David Lyons was found to have engaged in explicit online conversations with what he believed was a 12-year-old girl.Unbeknownst to him, the individual he was communicating with was an undercover police officer from the West Midlands police organized crime group, operating under the guise of a young girl named Evie.
According to court proceedings at Bolton Crown Court, Lyons had created profiles on social networking platforms Chatty and Kik Messenger.
It was on October 14, 2019, that he first encountered the fake profile of Evie, which was clearly marked as being 12 years old.
Over the course of several interactions on October 14, 15, and later on November 27 and 30, Lyons repeatedly encouraged the supposed girl to engage in sexual conversations.
He also sent unsolicited images of male genitalia to her, further demonstrating his intent.
Prosecutor Rachel Shenton detailed the exchanges, noting that Lyons asked Evie her age, to which she responded that she was 12.
Almost immediately after this, Lyons inquired, “Got any pics?” indicating his interest in explicit material.
The messages quickly turned sexual in nature, with Lyons pressing for more explicit exchanges.
Authorities acted swiftly following these interactions.
Lyons was arrested on January 6 of the following year at his residence on Brocksby Chase in Bolton.
During police interviews, he admitted to using the social media platforms Chatty and Kik Messenger but claimed he could not recall the specifics of the conversations, citing intoxication as a reason.
However, he did accept that he was the individual engaging with the officer behind the fake profile.
Further investigation revealed a disturbing collection of indecent images on Lyons’ mobile phone.
A total of 12 Category A images, the most serious classification, were discovered, including one depicting a child under the age of five being abused.
These images underscored the severity of his offending.
Lyons pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including attempted sexual communication with a child, attempting to cause a child to watch a sexual act, attempting to incite sexual activity, and possessing indecent images of children.
His actions have prompted widespread concern and highlight the ongoing issues surrounding online child exploitation and the importance of vigilant law enforcement efforts to combat such crimes.
