DONCASTER MAN DAVID JAMFREY SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN DONCASTER
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the Doncaster community, David Jamfrey, a 60-year-old resident of Scawthorpe, Doncaster, has been convicted of a series of heinous sexual offenses involving six young boys over a span of more than four years.The crimes, which took place between January 2010 and May 2014, included grooming, sexual assault, and other sexual activities with minors as young as six years old.
Jamfrey’s offending pattern was characterized by manipulative grooming tactics, where he lured boys as young as five to his flat in Middlegate, Scawthorpe.
During these visits, he would offer cigarettes and other incentives to gain their trust, creating an environment conducive to exploitation.
The grooming process was so insidious that, during initial police interviews, one of the victims did not disclose Jamfrey’s misconduct and even defended him, highlighting the extent of his manipulative influence.
At Sheffield Crown Court, Judge Sarah Wright sentenced Jamfrey to a lengthy term of ten years and nine months in prison.
The judge condemned his persistent grooming, stating that his actions had “shattered the lives of his victims.” Jamfrey had pleaded guilty to a total of 17 sexual offenses, including 11 counts of sexual assault of a male under 13, four counts of sexual activity with a male aged between 13 and 15, and additional charges related to engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a minor and attempting to engage in sexual acts with a child.
Evidence presented during the trial included Facebook messages in which Jamfrey explicitly offered cigarettes to a young boy in exchange for sexual favors.
Prosecutor Gordon Stables described these messages as “the plainest evidence of the effects of grooming and the control exerted by Jamfrey,” illustrating how he used incentives like cigarettes to manipulate and coerce his victims into compliance.
One of the victims provided a heartbreaking victim impact statement, revealing the profound psychological scars left by Jamfrey’s abuse.
The boy stated, “Because of this monster, I will never be a typical 14 or 15-year-old.
He stole my childhood and he stole my innocence.” The investigation was triggered in May 2014 when a concerned parent discovered her son at Jamfrey’s flat along with two other young boys.
This led police to uncover a total of six victims, with police officer Detective Constable David Whitehouse describing Jamfrey as a “dangerous man who deliberately targeted and groomed vulnerable young boys for his own sexual gratification.” Whitehouse emphasized the betrayal of trust by Jamfrey, who exploited the confidence placed in him by the families of his victims.
He praised the bravery of the victims who came forward to disclose their experiences, which ultimately led to Jamfrey’s guilty plea and subsequent sentencing.
The officer expressed hope that the victims and their families could now begin to rebuild their lives, knowing that Jamfrey was behind bars.
Jamfrey’s case underscores the disturbing reality that sexual exploitation can affect boys as well as girls.
Authorities continue to urge anyone with concerns about child abuse or exploitation to report such incidents to the police, ensuring that predators like Jamfrey are brought to justice and that children are protected from harm.
