GATESHEAD MAN JAILED FOR 24 YEARS IN COCAINE-FUELED RAPE CASE
David Hodgson, a man from County Durham now residing in Ryton, near Gateshead, has been sentenced to 24 years in prison after being convicted at trial of 16 offenses, including five counts of rape.
The court heard that Hodgson had a contemptuous attitude towards women, and his abuse caused significant psychological harm to his victim, who was brave enough to report him to police earlier this year.
During a six-day trial, Hodgson denied all charges, claiming they were fabricated, but the jury found him guilty of five rapes, four sexual assaults, three assaults causing actual bodily harm, and three counts of intentional strangulation.
He was cleared of four additional offenses.
The judge described Hodgson’s behavior as abusive, noting his use of physical strength to overpower his victim and suggesting that cocaine use increased his violence.
Hodgson's actions have left the victim suffering flashbacks and sleep disturbances.
The court sentenced Hodgson to serve two-thirds of his 24-year term before being eligible for release and ordered registration as a sex offender for life.
A restraining order was also issued, prohibiting him from contacting his victim for life.
