DAVID GREEN FROM PORTLAND SENTENCED FOR RAPE IN DORCHESTER

In a case that has shocked the community of Portland, a man named David Green has been sentenced to seven years in prison after being convicted of raping a 16-year-old girl. The incident took place in Green’s residence in Victoria Square, Portland, and the court proceedings revealed disturbing details about the assault.

According to court records, the teenage girl arrived at Green’s flat around 4 a.m. on the night of December 4 last year. She was heavily intoxicated at the time and subsequently passed out on Green’s sofa, unable to resist or give consent. The following morning, she woke up to find some of her clothing missing and her underwear not properly in place, raising suspicions of non-consensual activity.

DNA analysis played a crucial role in the case, confirming that Green, aged 35, had engaged in sexual activity with the girl. Despite Green’s claims that there was some form of sexual contact, he insisted that the girl was conscious and had consented to the encounter, asserting that they had not engaged in full sexual intercourse. However, the jury, after deliberating for five and a half hours, unanimously found Green guilty of rape.

During the trial, the prosecution highlighted Green’s criminal history, revealing that he had previously been cautioned in September 1999 for two sexual offences. These offences, dating back to between September 1987 and 1990, involved Green, then a teenager, abusing his position while babysitting young girls. The details of those offences included charges of indecent assault and gross indecency.

Green’s defense attorney, Tim Shorter, argued that there was no violence involved in the incident and that it was not premeditated. Nonetheless, he acknowledged that the jury’s verdict indicated they believed Green had exploited a woman who was incapable of giving proper consent due to her intoxication.

Judge Roger Jarvis delivered the sentence, which included seven years of imprisonment. Additionally, Green was ordered to register as a sex offender for life and was subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order. The judge condemned Green’s actions, stating, “It is quite clear to the court that on seeing how affected by drink she was you saw and took the opportunity to commit this wicked crime of rape.”

He further remarked, “She was easy prey to you. You were yourself stone cold sober and you calculated that you could have your way with this very much younger person and no one would be any the wiser.”

Detective Inspector Kevin Lansdale of Dorset Police expressed satisfaction with the outcome, emphasizing the thoroughness of the investigation. He stated, “This was an exhaustive enquiry from Dorset Police public protection team which followed a victim-centred approach throughout the investigation. We are pleased with the result and that justice has been seen to be done.”
