DAVID DAVENPORT'S SHOCKING CRIME IN BIRMINGHAM: SEX OFFENDER STRIKES AGAIN AFTER PRISON RELEASE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the Birmingham community, David Davenport, a man with a troubling criminal history, has been sentenced to four years in prison for heinous acts committed against a young girl.The incident occurred shortly after Davenport was released from prison, highlighting the ongoing concerns about the management and monitoring of convicted sex offenders in the area.
According to court reports, Davenport, who is 49 years old and formerly resided on Wetherby Road in Acocks Green, was convicted of six counts of indecent assault.
The crimes involved an eight-year-old girl, described by authorities as a vulnerable child, whom Davenport targeted within just a few weeks of regaining his freedom.
This pattern of offending raised serious questions about the effectiveness of the supervision and the risks posed by individuals with prior convictions.
West Midlands Police chose not to release a photograph of Davenport, despite his status as a twice-convicted sex offender.
The authorities expressed concern that he could potentially be back on the streets in as little as two years, raising alarm among community members and advocacy groups dedicated to protecting children from repeat offenders.
During the sentencing at Birmingham Crown Court, Judge Elizabeth Fisher addressed Davenport directly, emphasizing the gravity of his actions.
She stated, “These offences were committed at a time when you had not long been released from the last, related, sentence.
The victim was a vulnerable young child.
You were in a position of trust in relation to her and you breached that trust.
I cannot possibly ignore your previous conviction.” It was revealed that Davenport had previously served two and a half years for a rape conviction following a sentence handed down in 1995.
The court heard that he began abusing his second victim within just two weeks of being released from prison in February 1998.
The judge also added an extra 190 days to his current sentence because the latest offence occurred while Davenport was on licence for his earlier rape conviction.
In addition to the custodial sentence, Davenport was ordered to register as a sex offender, a measure intended to monitor his activities and prevent further harm.
Saleema Mahmood, representing Davenport, told the court that her client had struggled significantly to reintegrate into society after serving his previous sentence.
She acknowledged the severity of his past crimes but highlighted his efforts to rebuild his life, noting that he had worked diligently for 37 years to support his family and was supported by former colleagues.
Mahmood also pointed out that Davenport had faced numerous health issues and was described as being extremely introverted and nervous around children.
She expressed hope that he would use his time in prison to reflect and work towards personal rehabilitation, stating, “He will do his best to progress himself in the sentence period he must serve.” As the community grapples with the implications of this case, authorities continue to emphasize the importance of vigilant monitoring and support for offenders to prevent such tragic incidents from recurring in Birmingham and beyond.
