DAVID AND KIM CRAPPER FROM BARRY SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN CARDIFF

A deeply disturbing case of child sexual abuse has come to light involving a couple from Barry, whose actions have shocked the local community and prompted a severe legal response. David Crapper, aged 38, and his wife Kim Crapper, aged 39, were found guilty of heinous crimes committed against a young girl, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons. The abuse, which spanned several years, was characterized by a level of depravity that the presiding judge, David Wynn Morgan, described as among the most monstrous offenses he had encountered.

According to court proceedings, the abuse began when the victim was very young and continued over an extended period. The victim, who bravely came forward to police after confiding in a friend, recounted how the couple manipulated her into believing their treatment was normal. The details of her testimony revealed a pattern of grooming, sexual assault, and exploitation that left her profoundly traumatized.

The police reports detailed that David Crapper, who was 38 at the time, reacted with anger and accusations of her 'leading him on' whenever she tried to resist or say 'no.' He reportedly told her that he could be imprisoned if she told anyone about the abuse. Court documents state that he would sit her on his lap, during which he became aroused, and was seen touching himself. The victim was also made to touch him and was shown pornography, which further confused and disgusted her.

As the abuse escalated, David Crapper raped the girl on multiple occasions. The victim described feeling overwhelmed and confused by the situation, unable to comprehend the actions of her abuser. The situation worsened when David Crapper confided in his wife, Kim, who then became involved in the abuse. Kim Crapper, 39, began to touch the girl herself and was present during the rapes, even engaging in sexual acts with her husband in front of the young victim.

Following the victim’s report, police arrested the couple at their residence on Queen Street. Both admitted to the charges during police interviews. David Crapper pleaded guilty to multiple counts, including rape, sexual assault of a child under 13, causing a child to watch a sexual act, and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. Kim Crapper also admitted to sexual assault and abuse of the girl.

Legal representatives for the defendants provided context during sentencing. Susan Ferrier, representing David Crapper, acknowledged her client’s guilty pleas and noted that he had cooperated with authorities, which prevented the victim from having to testify in court. She described his mental state as having fallen into distorted thinking patterns, which contributed to his actions. Ruth Smith, defending Kim Crapper, highlighted her client’s vulnerable state, describing her as being in a controlling and toxic relationship with her husband, which she claimed led her to participate in the abuse under manipulation and coercion.

Judge Wynn Morgan expressed his profound condemnation of the crimes, emphasizing the incalculable physical and emotional harm inflicted upon the young girl. He criticized both defendants for their lack of genuine remorse. As a result, he sentenced David Crapper to 17 years in prison, with an additional four years on extended license. Kim Crapper received a six-year sentence, with an extended three-year license. Both will serve two-thirds of their sentences before being eligible for parole. Additionally, they are subject to indefinite sex offender notification requirements and a sexual harm prevention order, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the public from further harm.
