JAMES MOORE FROM BARRY SENTENCED FOR CHILD AND ANIMAL PORNOGRAPHY IN CARDIFF

In a serious case that has shocked the community of Barry, a local man named James Moore has been handed down a significant sentence after admitting to possessing indecent images and videos involving children, as well as material depicting animal abuse. The sentencing took place at Cardiff Crown Court, where the gravity of Moore’s offenses was thoroughly addressed by the presiding judge.

James Moore, aged 51 and a resident of the West End of Barry, faced the court after authorities uncovered a disturbing collection of illicit material stored on his home computer. The court was informed that Moore had been involved in the possession of thousands of photographs depicting children engaged in sexual acts, along with over 100 videos that included acts of sadism and bestiality. These materials were stored in carefully organized folders, with Moore creating specific categories based on the age of the children involved, notably dividing the files into two groups: children aged six to twelve, and those aged thirteen to fifteen. This categorization reflected Moore’s apparent attempt to organize the content according to his perceived age groups.

Authorities acted swiftly after receiving a tip-off, leading to a raid on Moore’s residence in June. During the search, officers discovered the extent of his illicit collection and confirmed that Moore had created these categories himself, indicating a deliberate effort to organize and perhaps access the material more easily. The severity of the case was underscored by the fact that Moore had admitted to storing these illegal images and films, which depicted acts of sexual abuse involving very young children, some as young as two years old.

Moore’s legal representatives explained that his actions were driven by curiosity, a justification that was met with disapproval from the court. The judge, David Wynn Morgan, emphasized the seriousness of the offenses and the need for rehabilitation, especially given the nature of the crimes involving very young children and animal abuse. As part of his sentence, Moore was ordered to remain on the Sex Offenders Register for ten years and to comply with a three-year community order. During this period, he is required to successfully complete a community sex offenders’ programme, aimed at addressing his behavior and preventing future offenses.

Furthermore, Moore, who is an incapacity benefit claimant, had already served 74 days in custody prior to sentencing. The court was clear that a custodial sentence would not serve the purpose of rehabilitation, and thus, he was given a community-based sentence instead. The court also imposed restrictions on Moore’s personal life, including a ban from living with anyone under 18 and from contacting minors in public or private settings without parental or social services’ approval. Additionally, he is prohibited from using the internet unless for work or educational purposes, to prevent further access to illegal material.
