DAVID CARR FROM LEEDS AND PUDSEY SENT BACK TO PRISON FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES AND GROOMING

In a case that spanned over a decade, David Carr, a man with connections to Leeds and Pudsey, has been brought back to prison after being convicted of multiple serious offences involving minors. The lengthy legal proceedings revealed disturbing details about Carr’s predatory behavior, which included grooming and sexual abuse of underage girls, as well as possession of a significant amount of indecent images of children.

The initial incident dates back to 2009 when Carr, then aged 24 and residing in Middleton, Leeds, engaged in sexual activity with a 14-year-old girl at his home in Middleton. The girl had met Carr through an online chatroom aimed at teenagers, which he used to lure her into a vulnerable situation. Despite the gravity of the incident, the case was not immediately pursued by authorities, as West Yorkshire Police failed to investigate the report made by the victim in 2011.

The victim, however, did not give up and contacted the police again after media reports in 2013 highlighted Carr’s previous conviction for child sex offences. It was during this period that police uncovered further disturbing evidence. When they arrested Carr at his residence in Leeds, they seized his computers and discovered a staggering 158 indecent images of children. The investigation also revealed that Carr had groomed a 15-year-old girl online, leading to sexual encounters on two separate occasions.

Following his arrest, Carr was charged with multiple offences, including two counts of sexual activity with a child, causing a child to watch a sexual act, and engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child. Additionally, he faced 11 charges related to the possession of indecent images of children. During the trial, Carr denied a charge of rape concerning the 2009 incident but pleaded guilty to sexual activity with a child shortly before his trial was set to commence.

His conviction was confirmed at Leeds Crown Court, where the jury found him guilty of all charges. Carr, who was then residing at Middleton Park Court, was sentenced to four and a half years in prison. The court heard harrowing testimony from the victim, who expressed her fears about possibly contracting a sexually transmitted infection due to the abuse she endured.

Judge Tom Bayliss, QC, presided over the case and emphasized the severity of Carr’s actions. He stated, “You knew perfectly well she was 14,” underscoring Carr’s awareness of the girl’s age during the abuse. The judge’s comments reflected the seriousness with which the court viewed Carr’s predatory conduct and the impact on the victim.

In a related case in February 2013, Carr, then aged 27 and living in Middleton Park Court, was convicted after a retrial of grooming a 15-year-old girl online and engaging in sexual acts with her on two occasions. The police investigation uncovered that Carr had amassed 158 indecent images of children, further illustrating his disturbing obsession with illegal material involving minors.

Judge Rodney Jameson QC described Carr as highly intelligent and noted that he had altered his lies during the two separate trials, indicating a lack of remorse. The judge also highlighted Carr’s manipulation of a vulnerable victim, who was suffering from a negative body image and believed she was unattractive to boys her own age. Despite the girl’s apparent consent and her older appearance, the court established that Carr was aware she was underage based on her Facebook profile.

The court proceedings revealed that Carr had a deep obsession with illegal images of children being raped, and he had conducted internet searches for terms like “preteen hardcore.” The judge condemned Carr’s actions, emphasizing the trauma inflicted on his victims and the calculated nature of his crimes. Ultimately, Carr’s repeated deception and exploitation led to his being sentenced to a substantial prison term, reaffirming the justice system’s stance against such heinous offences.
