DAVID BUTCHER SENTENCED TO 24 YEARS IN PRISON FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES IN LEAMINGTON
David John Butcher, a 54-year-old man from Leamington, has seen his prison sentence significantly extended following recent court proceedings at Warwick Justice Centre. Originally, Butcher was convicted in 2018 of multiple sexual abuse offences and was subsequently sentenced to 12 years in prison. However, during a recent trial, new evidence and disclosures of additional historic sexual offences led a judge at Crown Court to impose an extra 12 years on his sentence. As a result, Butcher's total incarceration period now stands at 24 years, reflecting the gravity of his crimes and the serious nature of the offences committed over a period of time. The court's decision underscores the importance of justice for victims and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to hold offenders accountable.
Detective Inspector Ed Slough expressed his satisfaction with the outcome, stating, “I am extremely pleased to see that a dangerous predator will lose more of his freedom. His crimes will live with the victims for a very, very long time, and 24 years in prison will not only give them some sense of justice served but help keep other people safe from his abuse.”
He further emphasized the significance of the sentence, noting, “The total sentence reflects how serious his offences are, and let this be a warning; I want anyone who is guilty of sexual abuse, of rape, or any form of sexual offence to know that victims are brave, they are courageous, and they are talking to us. Detectives will investigate their claims, and we will do everything in our power to ensure the guilty lose their freedom.”
Inspector Slough also praised the victims for their bravery throughout the legal process, acknowledging their efforts in providing evidence during interviews and court proceedings. He encouraged others who have been victims of sexual offences to come forward and report incidents, assuring them that specially trained officers are available to handle their cases with care and sensitivity, aiming to achieve justice in line with their wishes.
