DAVID BROWN OF NORTHAMPTON JAILED FOR ONLINE SEXUALLY INAPPROPRIATE MESSAGES TO GIRLS
In May 2021, David Brown, a 64-year-old man from Northwood Road, Northampton, was sentenced to 30 months in prison after being convicted of sending sexually inappropriate messages to multiple young girls online.Northampton Crown Court was informed that Brown had targeted children under the age of 16 over a period of approximately seven months in 2018.
During this time, he sent explicit texts, including requests for nude images.
Police arresting Brown in August 2018 found him in possession of seven indecent images of children on his phone.
His Honour Judge David Herbert QC addressed the court, stating, "These were persistent, determined and repeated attempts to incite underage young girls to send you images of their naked genitalia." The judge continued, "You say that you are not interested in young girls but I do not accept that as that is why you committed these offences and that’s why you were in possession of the indecent images and why you repeated your offending." Brown had pleaded guilty in March to five counts of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child, five counts of attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity, and two counts of making indecent photographs of a child.
Following his arrest, authorities examined his phone and discovered several conversations on social media with girls who claimed to be under 16.
Across these communications, Brown asked for nude pictures and posed inappropriate questions about their sexual histories.
His messages contained sexual suggestions, including inquiries such as: "Are you up for naughty fun?" One girl, alleging she was only 10 years old, labeled Brown a pervert and expressed fear, stating she would contact emergency services.
Nevertheless, Brown continued to press for nude images, claiming he was 16.
The police noted that they were unable to verify the ages of the users involved, as they could not be interviewed; however, the profiles and content of the messages indicated that the individuals were likely under 16.
The indecent images of young girls, described as a 'relatively small' number by the prosecution, were also found on Brown’s device.
In addition to his prison sentence, Brown was issued a 10-year sexual harm prevention order, which significantly restricts his access to the internet and online content.
