DAVID BRIDDICK SHOCKS DARLINGTON WITH SECRET SHOWER FILMING IN REDCAR STORE
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the Darlington community, David Briddick, aged 42, was sentenced to prison after being found guilty of secretly filming a teenage girl in her shower. The incident took place in Redcar, where Briddick, who was managing a local food store, used his mobile phone to record the girl on three separate occasions.
According to reports, Briddick had asked to use the bathroom before the girl at her home, which raised suspicions.
It was only after she discovered her mobile phone propped up in a covert position that she realized she was being filmed.
The girl promptly reported the incident to the police, leading to Briddick’s arrest and subsequent investigation.
During the court proceedings at Teesside Crown Court, prosecutor Sue Jacobs detailed the impact of the crime on the victim.
The girl, in a Victim Impact Statement, expressed her feelings of wariness around men following the ordeal.
Her words underscored the emotional trauma inflicted by Briddick’s actions.
Briddick, a father of two boys, showed no immediate reaction when questioned by authorities after his arrest.
His defense lawyer, Graham Silvester, acknowledged the perplexity surrounding Briddick’s conduct.
He stated, “Why a man of his age and with his good work record and his obviously good points in being able to raise a family should do this is as bemusing to him as it is to the rest of us.
He is disgusted with himself and has lost his self-respect.” Despite recognizing the seriousness of the offense, Silvester urged the court to consider a non-custodial sentence, emphasizing that the offences exceeded the threshold for immediate imprisonment but advocating for leniency.
The girl’s own letter to the court requested that Briddick be spared jail, citing her concern for his children.
Judge Peter Bowers addressed the court, condemning Briddick’s actions.
“What you did is shameful.
You were spying on her, and although you say that there was no sexual motive, I can’t think of any other reason why you would want to do it,” he stated.
The judge acknowledged the girl’s plea and the recommendations of the probation officer but ultimately decided that a prison sentence was necessary.
Briddick, who previously resided in Loftus and more recently in The Causeway, Darlington, was sentenced to 15 months in prison after pleading guilty to three counts of voyeurism and two counts of taking indecent photographs.
Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years and was given a ten-year ban on contact with girls under the age of 16.
This case highlights the ongoing issues of privacy invasion and the importance of safeguarding minors from such invasive acts.
